Caught the tail end of a story about skeet shooters being struck by lightening yesterday on the news. Has anyone heard about this and are the shooters ok. It was a local ABC station. I have done a search of their website and a google search to no avail.

Slightly off topic but where I shoot there's a lightning warning system that go's off if there's any lightning within 12 miles of the club. Once the warning sounds all shooting has to stop until the all clear.

    TjayE,

I don't know who makes the system we have but a Google search for Lightning Warning Systems will bring up pages of suppliers.

This one was yesterday. I got lots of hits but nothing from yesterday. I was wondering if it was local being that the local news was reporting.

From the news article sounds like two guys where in the back yard shooting at "Skeet" aka clay targets in general. The everyday person will call a clay target a "Skeet" out of ignorance.

    ronbo, right.

I have seen many movies where "skeet" was targets off a little Hoppe's manual type thrower, sometimes on a ship.

The biggie was when the Hero said, "Load Two!". LOL.

    Try typing lightning, not lightening.

    Ah yes! Darwin Award Nominees!

Who in his right mind would hold a shotgun up with lightning in the area? A shotgun barrel is a very good lightning rod!

An AM radio set on a station will get a static hiss if there is lighting in the area. Some of the little league coaches use it as a early warning. If you have ever heard the expression " it came from out of the blue" it's from the fact that lighting can hit on a sunny day from many miles away. Try the AM radio next time a storm is on the way. One of the clubs that I shoot at signed up as an NRA associate and they provided the lightning warning device.
