I have a load that works well, really hammers clay birds. It is not a reliable killer of real birds however.

    Federal purple game hulls
    Win 209 primer
    19.6 grns Universal
    1/8" nitro wad
    BP 1oz wad
    1oz #8

It loads quickly, crimps well and gives 1100 fps over my Chrony

I have a very light Saur (under 6 lbs) that really performs well with this load.

I honestly think that #8 is for quail over dogs or woodcock. It does not kill cleanly on Chukar, pheasants, rabbits or huns, at least not in my experience. It does work on pigeons IF and that's a big if, you can keep the yardage down to 35 or less.
