Could you fill the battery with a solution of baking soda and water and let it sit for awhile? Would that neutralize the acid? Has anyone tried?

Not worth the trouble if you're talking about auto batteries. The posts are pure lead and won't flow properly. The plates are usually so caked up with junk you can't get enough lead out by melting. Get some wheel weights and have fun.Good hard pistol bullets scavenged from a range work too.
