John, I manage a satellite non-ferrous metals buying station in northern York County for J&K Salvage of York, PA. I have a buyer locked in for every pound of lead I get but our main location in York may have some. Call Steve at (717) 324-4355 - tell him you're one of Ed's trapshooting buddies.

Besides the usual source for wheel weights such as tire shops and service garages, check out any city, county or state angecies, such as police dept, highway mainteance and school bus maintenace shops. Some of these places throw this stuff out, put in their own private dump. I once obtained two 5 gallon buckets of truck tire weights because I simply asked for them at a school bus mainteance shop.

I have a plastic garbage can full, in my garage. A few years ago I considered buying a shot making setup, but then decided not to. I don't know the weight. The last time I posted, all I got was BS from posters wanting to know the weight. I am near Rochester NY (NY Rte 14). What would you pay for this garbage can full?

No one will give you a price if they don't know how much you have. You have a "plastic garbage can full" Depending on how big the can is you could have up to 500 lbs. A 5 gal pail will hold 125 to 150 lbs. If you check you will find that scrap yards are only paying $0.10 to $0.15 a lb. I will pay $0.20 a lb.
If you have 500 lbs that wound be .20 x 500 = $100.00 I hope this helps. Please let me know what you think.

John, you are right. Scrapyards are paying low .10, high .15. Just checked. If you wait a week I should have around 900 pounds. Will you get back to me. The .20 is more than fair. Bulge.

    jojo,

sorry I didn't mention that it is a 30 gallon trash can. I'd give it to you for $50 , or some exchange shot, you come and get it.

john make shure you sort the strip weights out(list my soft stuff towards fall on e gay for the black powder casters),and stay away from semi truck weights(contain babit),they both have tendicies to give you head aches, and dont let your temp get above 650 degrees,i bought a red dot digatal from harbor freight for $40-50 bucks, well worth it.mark jones
