We let those little guys go here in Michigan and give them chance to grow up.

The news the other night had a bit on a local 73 year old Campbell River man who caught the biggest salmon in over 20 years. It was a 61 1/2 pound Tyee, caught from a rowboat, on a plug with barbless hook. He was being rowed by his son, had had the gear in the water for about 10-20 minutes if I remember right, and took about 40 minutes to land it.

The rules of the Tyee Club are: sport caught in the waters off Campbell River, from a rowboat, using an artificial luer with barbless hook. Needless to say, only Chinooks are big enough to be Tyees.

Since the inception of the Tyee Club back in the 1920s, I think there have only been 6 fish over 60 pounds registered, and he or his sons have been in on 3 of them.

Those people are kings? What kind of fish are they holding? They look like shiner minnows.
