To all of my friends who may have been a little jealous that I landed a good job working out of my home and my motorhome when I shoot... the axe fell yesterday. I was part of what they refer to as Reduction In Force (RIF). I go 38 years in the private sector without ever getting fired or laid off and now I got laid off twice in 13 months by two different company's. I'm on a roll I guess. It does leave me with more time to shoot but paying for medical insurance for my wife will kill me. (I may not be able to play all the options)Oh well, time to file for SS and Medicare I guess.

That sucks right before Christmas, but it's better than right after Christmas after you spent a pile on gifts (Happened to me when I was alot younger)

So I opened up my own business, I never get laid off, just keep working for no pay

    Blade,

Head up eyes forward. No use in looking backwards. You will be fine. Just might have to cut back on the fancy beds in your motorhome and extra ribs for the gun. LOL

Take care. I'll include your family in the prayers tonight.

They said the unemployment rate is going down. BS if the real numbers were quoted (people who run out of unemployment benefits and those who have been off the grid so to speak) it would be scary.

The sad thing is for the people who want to work there isn't much out there. Good Luck in your quest for another job or what ever you decide to do Blade.

Thanks for the wishes. It could be a whole lot worse. I could have younger children or even Kids in College. Fortunately I'm old enough for SS and VA takes cars of my health. However, what we will have to pay for my wife's insurance is almost criminal and in this country, we shouldn't have to bear that kind of expense. Anyone! (There goes my Socialist idealogy)) Reminds me of what my Daughter went thru a few years ago in Phillie. She made too much for medical assistanse but not enough to afford medical insurance. As for lifestyle I'll have to make some adjustments and wish now that I didn't buy that new motorhome 3 weeks ago. Matt... maybe I can rent a room out at next summer's Grand?

When I was VP for a computer company in Boston, I was directed to lay off most of my sales force and to close several offices just before Christmas. The SOB who directed me to do so said that it was better to do this at this time of year because the people I laid off would be able to "network" with potential employers at the various parties they would attend over the holidays.

I later learned that this humanoid was part of an outfit in Viet Nam which celebrated the 4th of July by shelling nearby villages. I quit the company as soon as possible thereafter. The company no longer exists - and I hope that bastard doesn't either!

They don't tell you tha what companies are looking for is people that have been laid less than 6 months. Even fox news is pushing that Romney Obamma adgenda. Wild Bill

By the way. The CEO of the spinoff company who called me also got laid off. The spinoff did not make any money for 2 years and evapoarated into the main company. So it's proof that anyone is vaunrable. Unfortunately we are still in hard times but I'm optimistic that better days are comming for EVERYONE.

I share the same feelings this happened to me also a few weeks ago. Anyway it tough out there I talked to 2 people this week that have also lost their jobs and 1 has lost his home . As much as I would like to paint a bright picture it's going to be tough. Good Luck I'm lucky enough I dont have to go back but its going to be a long time before i see any additional income at the age of 53. This was for sure not in my plans.

Rick... changing the Leader I'm afraid will do nothing either. WE I repeat WE are the only ones that can change it! I know most of you hate the OWS crowd, but look what the movement is starting to do... Bank of America vs. Credit Unions, even NetFlix, while bringing the 99% voices to more of importance. I see many attitudes changing in both houses. Something the Tea Party couldn't do and now is dying a slow death. The OWS may be scruffy unemployed kids who need "to get a job and take a shower first" but that shouldn't prevent them from expressing their First Amendmant Rights just like we do on this site. Both of my Children live in NY CITY and both are employed but talk consatntly to people in the crowd. Hell there are OWS people my age and in my circumsatance. I'm optimistic that this will change, it'll just take time. It's more important now than ever to help your Brother, have compassion and understanding toward those that are in worse shape than you and trying to do something about it.

    blade,

Most of the idiots of the OWS crowd want handouts. I have studied and read on the OWS wants and many of them are just plain stupid on what they demand as change.

I read one OWS statement where she wanted the Government to repay all her College tutition because after receiving her degree in the field SHE chose, there were no jobs in her area available in that field. You know what? Too f'n bad. Get your lazy butt up and move to a location where there is one. That is the way it has been forever. Famlies relocated so their husbands could get jobs building the Golden Gate Bridge, The Hoover Dam, The Empire State Building etc. etc. People relocated to where the jobs were. Why is it our fault she chose a field lacking jobs? When my wife chose to go to school, she picked a field in high demand(Registered nurse). When i lost my job in 1999, i went and got my CDL because i knew there were a ton of jobs in that field. Truck Driver wasn't my dream job, it was what it took to feed my family. I have been on Unemployment a total of 3 weeks while i was getting my CDL. I hated the feeling. With my health issues, i could likely get disablity. I just can't stand the thought even though i have paid into SS my whole working life and know there will probably be nothing for me when i reach retirement age. That doesn't mean i am against others using disability for legit reasons. Just my thing. Do you see the difference in that line of thinking and these OWS handout pukes?

These OWS pukes are all about ME ME ME for FREE FREE FREE. I have no compassion or agreement with them. I like you blade but i think you have your head buried deep.

Matt.... I should take some over the raod OJT from you.) My belief, and I don't know if you spotted it in my attitude when we met at the Grand, is (are) always keep your chin up, try to stay positive and recognize that being pissed off or bitter takes more of a toll on you than the recepiant. Lastly, I of all people can guarantee that my head isn't buried deep. I receive first hand info from my Children who are educated and responsible young adults. When ever you get a group, large group of people together, you will have those who stray from the original intent. The anit Viet Nam movement was ruined by the Weathermen and Chicago 6. I LIKE YOU TOO MATT.

Rick..... "things the way they were"? Why think about it? My Mother a couple years ago said that also and she grew up during the great depression on a farm. I believe we all wish that one time or another. but the fact is we're here.

The working/not working numbers do not tell the whole story. There are many people who traditionally earned 50-95 thousand a year who are now working part time jobs in retail and sucking their retirement savings down just to get by. There are 10 of 12 empty houses on my street (my street is only one block long). Many of these people who are not able to make it are living in relatives basements or other sub standard living arrangments. Judging from my experience in Texas and now in Indiana, I would say that yes, I am sure at least 10 percent have NO jobs, but another 50 percent are working their butts of trying to make it with sub standard jobs. I am not just talking about drunken old high school drop outs either. I am talking about people with Bachelor and Masters degrees in Business, Engineering, Technologies and Education. There are no published figures on this hardship.

When we don't have 95% + of the eligible voters going to the polls, all that stay home share the blame. I hear a lot of complainers at work and ask who they voted for, too many say "I didn't vote, I didn't like either one".
