I have read posts in the past about frozen choke tubes and how to get them out. I have used Kroil for several years and find it the best for frozen or rusted items. If you read the can it states 'frees all rusted bolts or your money back'...that's a paraphrase. Case in point, I purchased a 1985 automobile from a college student. It ran terribly with the OEM (yep, the ones that it left the assembly plant with) spark plugs. I applied Kroil and left it for the day. Yesterday I removed all 8 spark plugs without complication...man this stuff works. Not just for choke tubes...Larry Lockhart

It's cheaper to buy it direct. SILIKROIL is great stuff also. Check out the web site for all of their versions. Been using this stuff for years.

We used Marvel Mystery Oil to clean automatic weapons of all kinds. It was easier to come by than Kroil and just as effective.

Kroil and Marvel Mystery oil i've used both and like both. Try mixing the two and you will like them twice as much.

Does Kroil penetrate very small spaces better than kerosene. Some penetrating oils are simply a mixture of a little bit of light oil and a lot of kerosene.

    You can decide that, Pat.

Here's the composition of Kroil. You can determine the exact ingredients by Googling the CAS numbers for each: <center>

"Severly hydrotreated" simply means that this distillate has been reacted with hydrogen to remove color compounds and purify it.

MK- Thanks. It appears that Kroil is primarily light petroleum distal ates. It is safe to assume the carbon chains would be at least 9 carbons long making the distillate either kerosene or something very similar to kerosene. I recognize that petroleum distillates are typically not uniform. A small amount of alcohol is present, possible to absorb water. A few things to make the smell more pleasant are also present.

If I am wrong with my assumption, and the carbon chains are shorter, septane or less, than Kroil might work by getting into small spaces, igniting and blow the stuck parts out like a rifle bullet.

From the ingredients, it still appears to me that kerosene could be as effective as Kroil but with a stronger oder.

Most of my mechanic friends tell me KROIL is the last step before the cutting torch. If KROIL will not get it out you are going to be using a torch.

    Good Stuff.

Kroil iws pretty amazing. I have a 45-90 sharps that tends to lead after 50 rounds or so. A wet patch of Kroil and a 20 minute wait loosens that lead to that a tight patch pushes it all out. I will do this to plastic melted into a shotgun barrel too.

I also use Ed's Red. Kroil actually gets under fouling beter than ER.
