I'm trying to help my mother here... as she's not used to having the firing pin spring compressed on her gun when it's in the case. If you pull the trigger (and she uses a snap cap) before you take the KS5 apart, removing the barrel ends up cocking the gun again.

First... Is there wear on the firing pin spring if it's left cocked?

Is it harmful to the gun to pull the trigger when the receiver is apart from the barrel?

    Thanks for your help.

That gun cocks itself when you open the gun. Krieghoff designed it that way. If you have any questions call Krieghoff International. Great folks. Talk to Elmar Bonn at 610-847-5173.

BREAK DOWN THE GUN-WITH ONE FINGER ON TRIGGER, WITH OTHER HAND PUSH DOWN ON THE LEVER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RECIEVER WHERE THE BARRELS GO WHEN CLOSING. PUSH THE LEVER DOWN AT THE SAME TIME PULLING THE TRIGGER AND IT WILL UNCOCK THE HAMMER. RICK ZINO

From the KS-5 manual. Pretty much what is described above. The hammer is cocked by pushing the locking lever to the right. Thus, when pulling the trigger at the same time as pushing the lever to the right, while pushing down on the locking bolt release bar will allow the hammer to move forward, when the locking lever is allowed back to center position.
