    .

Not a question about honesty. Assume all trap shooters are honest with themselves and their fellow shooters.

The question is about knowing whether you broke a target and can keep an accurate count through 25 targets.

If you are shooting alone (no other shooters on the line), how confident are you on every target that your call would be the same as a scorer's ?

If you were to get a chip for a legitimate break, would a scorer be more likely to notice it than you the shooter ?

Let's say you were testing some new technique for you and you wanted an accurate record of your performance, would your observation and memory of your breaks be as accurate as a scorer's ?

    Thoughts...

The trick is not to miss too many. Once it gets past 5 fingers, I get lost, but then I really don't care at that point. :) Mark

My average is right at 95, it's not hard to keep track of what I missed. Woody

    Simple for me.
I put hits in the reload bag.
    Misses go in vest pocket.
Hopefully there are none in my pocket at end of round :)

I happen to know that you are going to need a vest with more pockets:)

Did you get over to North Mountain last night.

If you want to test eyesight and accuracy for recording weak hits and small chippers, have someone video the targets from inside the trap house. The camera won't lie to you or make a mistake? :)

Count on your fingers? How about toes on a bad day?

On a really bad day I would get arrested at 21 ... for indecent exposure!

We sometimes shoot without a scorer if numbers are light. I have a hard time keeping track especially after a couple of misses I stop trying to count. I like the idea about putting misses in a separate pocket. That doesn't always help with chips however. Our scorer and I had me at 23 last Saturday but another shooter saw a chip we didn't. I would see no point in trying to cheat the score if I were scoring myself. The reason I want a score is to keep track of how I'm shooting. Just my 2 cents.

I would feel totally confident in keeping my own accounting.

Most days I can keep tally for the squad. But I ain't getten any younger they tell me so who knows how much longer that ability will exist!

(no other shooters on the line)

Why shoot by yourself? Gotta have at least one pal out there with you to make a game out of it.

But yes I always know my score when I come off the line and generally the rest of the squad as well.
