K frame grips on a 686 L farme??

    L frames are designed to use K frame grips.

    Keep in mind, though, that there are still two styles - square and rounded.

    Yes - K-frame and L-frame guns share the same grip frame as long as you stay with square butts or round butts. The triggers are also interchangeable but the hammers are not.

    S&W make square butt j frame snubnose style grips scaled up to fit an L frame.
    Makes your 686 look like a big ass belly gun.

    If you have small hands, make sure the grips expose the backstrap of the gripframe or only cover them with a thin layer of wood or rubber. This will put your hand as far forward as possible.
