A friend has a K-80 trap combo made around 1990. He's only shot trap with it in the past, but now wants to shoot the 30" o/u for sporting clays. The gun worked fine with the selector set to fire the bottom barrel first, but when he switched to fire the top barrel first, it always doubled.

It's in Ottsville now, and my friend just talked with someone from Krieghoff. He says he was told that this isn't unusual since K-80 trap doubles guns were set up differently, and that it would now be adjusted so that either barrel could be fired first.

Can someone explain how and why it would be set up differently?

The origional first barrel would have a trigger pull of three or less and could doubble if fired the other way around. Why switch the selector leave it as is and change the chokes!

Second trigger is usually set for slightly more pull or creep- if you get the second trigger lighter than the first - if set up just for trap doubles- recoil alone can sometimes cause this

So local gunsmiths that dont work on a lot of Krieghoffs are not the ideal person to be setting those triggers so lightly

He should look into getting another set of barrels for sporting clays unless he shoots a flat gun for trap doubles and then shoot the bottom barrel as usual.
