Didn't know him but knew some people who followed him.

One thing that stood out, THEY knew what made a politician a communist and weren't afraid to call them one.

Those that are politician's now call themselves "Progressives" because it sounds better, then to be labeled a communist!

John Birch had NOTHING to do with the John Birch Society.

    NOTHING.

He was DEAD BEFORE the John Birch Society was even formed, murdered by a Chinese communist officer. His name was used symbolically by the society.

    From Wikipedia....

<i>The society was established in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 9, 1958, by a group of 12 led by Robert Welch, Jr., a retired candy manufacturer from Belmont, Massachusetts. Welch named the new organization after John Birch, an American Baptist missionary and U.S. military intelligence officer who was killed by communist forces in China in August 1945, shortly after the conclusion of World War II. Welch claimed that Birch was an unknown but dedicated anti-communist,[6] and the first American casualty, Welch contended, of the Cold War.</i>

So when some liberal jackass says <i>"John Birch was a freak"</i>, you know he is full of horsecrap and is probably parroting what his misinformed liberal peers are posting over at the Democratic Underground website. This is so typical of all the other crap he's posting. No clue.

Jimmy Doolittle mentions John Birch in his autobiography. John Birch was an American missionary whom helped the down American fliers in China after the Tokoyo raid. Jimmy Doolittle thought a lot of the guy.

Like Brian said he had nothing to do with the John Birch society.

You youngsters out there that are a bit confused. Find the song "john birch society" by the Chad Mitchell Trio on the internet and give it a listen. "we are taking down the names of everybody turning left."

I was deemed a "member" at the ripe old age of 11 because I wrote a letter to them asking for information. My curiosity was based on the above song. Amazing what can show up in a government file on you many years later. bob

The thing I remember about the John Birch Society is the little booklet "None Dare Call it Conspiricy". Great little read.

Then what are going to do with them?

March them into a gas chamber or put them up against a wall?
