I'm looking through the program for the NE Grand, anyone able to explain how the Jackpot Purse works?

In the case of the Northeast Grand, all the shooters who enter the Jackpot Purse option will be shooting for the same money, without regard to class or yardage group. The pay is 40/30/20/10 high gun, so the top four shooters, i.e., "high guns," and ties, will be paid.

In the case of the Singles Championship, that most likely means only 200s will get paid. If there are only three 200s then any 199s will split 10% of the pot.

In the case of the Doubles Championship, the pay out will probably not get past the 99s.

In the case of the Handicap Championship, pay out will probably not get past the 98s.

So, unless you think you're going to break a 200 in the Singles, a 99 or better in the Doubles, or a 98 or better in the Handicap, you shouldn't play it.

At the Grand in 1996, I made just shy of 1K off the Jackpot purse in the GAH with a score of 96. So it doesn't always take a huge score to collect on the Jackpot purse.

    Jeff,

The Jackpot Purse at this year's Grand for the GAH was paid 25/15/10/25/15/10 percentage. That would pay (most probably) down to 95. Knowing how staid the ATA is, I doubt if that pay off has changed much over the years. In other words, it was most likely a percentage payoff in 1996 too.

The Jackpot Purse in the Northeast Grand is paid high gun. That's why I said "In the case of ...". To tell somebody that a 40/30/20/10 high gun pay off is going to reach down to even 96 is really stretching it.

Of course it's also dependent on who plays the option. But I don't know of a good shooter (aka "big dog") who wouldn't play the Jackpot.

So, I stand by what I posted.

Unless you are one of the Big Dogs or a Sandbagger ... forget the Jackpot Purse and play the Class and/or Yardage Purses.

That is a perfect example of why the politically correct percentage method should not be used in that event. Really, the Jackpot Purse at the Grand; who cares about payoffs of $150 and less?

I played the Jackpot Purse on Event 20 this year at the Grand and my 97 paid me $38.00 but the 97 paid me $87.00 in my yardage group. Sure glad I didn't play the Lewis cause the 97 didnt pay anything!!.
