It's obvious that RIMFIRE RAMPAGES are OUT OF CONTROL.

We must put an end to this popular weapon of choice by shooting spree mass murderers.

January 1979, Brenda Ann Spencer shot and killed two adults at an elementary school, she also shot and injured 8 others. Spencer used a Ruger 10/22 rifle.

Jeffrey Weise uses a Glock, an 870 shotgun and a Ruger .22 pistol to kill 9 people and injure 5 at Red Lake High School on March 21, 2005.

On September 24, 2003 John Jason McLaughlin uses a .22 pistol to kill two at Rocori High School, Cold Spring, Minnesota.

At Santana High School in Santee, California, Charles Andrew Williams uses an Arminus .22 revolver to kill two and wound 13.

Victor Cordova, Jr., on Nov 20, 1999, used a .22 handgun to kill a girl at Deming Middle School in Deming, NM.

On November 15, 1995 James Ellison Rouse used a Remington .22 rifle to kill two and injure 1 at Richland High School in Lynnville, Tennessee.

On Dec 1, 1997, Michael Carneal used a .22 caliber rifle, a Ruger Mark II .22 pistol, and a12 gauge pump-action shotgun to kill three and injure five at Heath High School in West Paducah, Kentucky.

Kip Kinkel on May 21, 1998 used a Ruger 10-22 to kill two and wound 24 at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon.

Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and wounded 17 others on April 16, 2007, at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. One of the weapons used was a Walther P22 .22LR handgun with three 10-round magazines.

On June 2, 2010 Derrick Bird used a George Fisher 12 gauge double-barreled shotgun and CZ 452-2E ZKM .22-calibre bolt-acton rifle to kill 12 people and injure 11 others in Cumbria, England.

In Paris, fraqnce, Jean-Pierre Roux-Durrafourt used a pump-action .22 rifle and began shooting randomly at cars and pedestrians. The four dead were all adult men.

Michael Slobodian kills 2 people, wounds 13, with two guns, one of which is a .22 rifle, on May 28, 1975 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

On April 28, 1999 Todd Cameron Smith used a sawed off .22 rifle to kill one and injure one at W.R. Myers High School in Taber, Alberta, Canada.

I shoot targets at my gun club. I don't think I have to kill a stupid deer or squirrel to justify having a gun.

We must ban them all if it will save the life of just one child. Now let's all be good liberal lemmings and turn our guns into the government so they can melt them down to make another Nobel Peace Prize for Odumbo.

Glad to see some of you can exercise critical thinking.

The anti's have framed the debate that the the evil gun de jour must be banned. After it is gone, the whack jobs will simply use whatever else they can get their hands on. Handguns are likely the next most common, follow by shotguns. And by caliber the .22 rimfire is very common. These will all be attacked in turn. And while researching this, found several school attacks done with knives. Also, don't overlook that ninety bombs were used at Columbine, hundreds of pounds of explosives at Bath (the worst school killing in the USA), or that gasoline was used in the worst mass murder ever in the USA, killing 87 at the Happy Land night club.

But right now the anti-gunners and their useful tools are clamoring for the ban of firearms, and they are not going to let this heinous tragedy go unexploited. The law-abiding will be punished for the deeds of the criminally insane, and for the incompetence of society to deal with people with serious mental issues.

Right, Buzz. And do you _really_ need 3 shots for duck hunting? I mean, there's a couple hundred pellets in a 12 gauge shell. That even seems like overkill for a little duck.

    @The Literalist,

That is the most idiotic statement I have seen on TS.com in a long time. What you need to do is go get a bucket of sand and a hammer and pound some sand. If your mentality doesn't allow you to understand a weapon and their use, you really should not own one.

Maybe the media conveniently forgot the Casper, Wyoming incident: A son drove from Conn. to Wyoming with murderous intent. He, a bright person, with "real or imagined disabilities" proceeded to stab (butcher) his dad's girlfriend and then, went to his dad's college class and shot him with a crossbow in the head. Dad bravely fought off his son (in front of his class of students) but, was repeatedly stabbed and murdered.

Ban all "assault crossbows" and edged weapons?....

The moral of the story is that evil people with homicidal/suicidal intent will be successful....to think the level of lethality is reduced by banning "assault weapons" is folly. Are we creating the stage for evil, bright and/or mentally ill people to experiment with explosives, anthrax, sarin, etc.?

Which begs the question: Are all mass murderers "mentally ill?" How about suicidal/homicidal bombers? Are they mentally ill?

No, some are religious fanatics (terrorists).

Are all school shooters mentally ill? No. But many are.

Sure these sick fxxks are mentally ill. And that is the main thing that people just can't get their minds around so they ignore the elephant in the school room. Much easier to place the blame on a particular style of firearm than actually dig into the problem. The real frightening thing is that mental illness is fairly common - fortunately it rarely involves ultra violence.

That is why we haven't seen the last of this sort of crap and whatever firearms restrictions and bans won't change a thing. (rest assured, there will be some new laws coming out of the latest horror show)
