How come none of this crap is ever learned BEFORE the election????? Jim
Gov. David Paterson admits to sleeping with another woman while he was married to wife, Michelle.
David Paterson married Michelle Paige in November 1992.
The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state's new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.
glad i gave up my NY citizenship... seems like they keep electing moron after moron after moron... now they are gonna have the same crap as in MI going on....lol
I think Brian is on the right track. With people still reeling over the spitzer scandal, they (paterson and his wife) probably figured that the PTB (powers that be) wouldn't want to go through that all over again right away, and everyone will have forgotten about it by the time the next election rolls around. Good move strategically i suppose.
Somehow I think who does what with whom and when and why and where and how and all of that may not always directly correlate to character; too many variables, and I really don't want to know as long as the politician does not make decisions based upon who did what when and how to him or her. But that's unlikely. So be it; darn, it's still a high school world.
lol they should publish the phone records then....lol
Actually I havent lived in NY in 20 some years (due to the mililtary) I was upset with the Hillary thing (even did my absentee balot) and gave up at that point... Now ill just never go back.. You become taxed to death.. so why bother... there are really no good jobs there... the state (aside from a few areas) is dying out...
How about Governor John Corzine, in New Jersey? Thought he was immune to auto crashes, and needed no seat belt. Guess he thought his station in life repealed the laws of physics.
This is the patrician attitude of those elected to serve the people. No perk is too expensive for people to bear.
Gee, I wonder if the big fight about not letting the telephone companies be sued for making illegal phone taps on U.S. citizen's phone calls could have anything to do with the prosecutions that may take place based on information gathered in those illegal phone taps? Like those in power might just find something to "leverage" an opponent into not fighting some action or another maybe?
Listening in on a call and finding someone was playing with a "working girl" might just provide a means to handle someone who is getting a bit too "uppity" now couldn't it?
pyrdek, Remember that when Spitzer was attorney general of NY he was then (8-9 years ago)soliciting the services of these "working girls" as you call them. He was also prosecuting other prostitution rings while being involved with the ring he got caught at(could he have been pressured into it by the mob?). Authorities are also in the belief that he used campaign funds to pay for the "fun". Other people get prosecuted for the Mann Act so why shouldn't he. He was the first to try to get everyone prosecuted he could, he made no friends. He loved being called a "Steamroller". He ruined a lot of careers on his way to the governor's mansion without any reason.Maybe the payback was more in that arena than political. It sounds as if you like to chose just the facts that you want to talk about and ignore the others. I think he was dirty. Since becoming governor, the govenor's office has been embroilled in one scandal after another. If it were just one instance, I'd say maybe you're right, but there has been so many. Too many to ignore. Enough so he didn't even pull a "Bill Clinton" to say he was not involved. They have him dead to rights and he is just trying to hang on his realtor's and bar(lawyer) license. If he is convicted of a felon, they are automatically taken away from him.
There's a little bit of a difference between an "affair" and soliciting a hooker with laundered money. I'll respect the guy for coming forth with the facts before they were dug up. It's a done deal and if anyone starts to bring it up again, they are the bad guys and not Paterson.
No I don't think it's a New York thing but it does seem to be a democratic thing doesn't it. Don't get me wrong I'm not real excited about our new governor but if him and his wife both had affairs so what they both know about them and now so does everyone else, apparently they dealt with it and were ready to move forward no big deal as far as his job goes. Thats really between him and her and nobody elses business... Some people look at it and say here we go again but unless I'm mistaken an affair is not breaking the law or commiting a FELONY Eliot Spitzer broke several laws including the Mann Act and money laundering, not to mention he put the entire state of NY in jepordy by putting money in the hands of a prostitution ring that is tied to organized crime (read the Mob) and leaving himself open to blackmail which could have been used against him to sway many of his political decisions. I've hated him since he was attorney general,Lets face it Eliot spitzer was like a rabid pit bull going after anybody and anything that he didn't agree with, he poked his nose into far more things than the government (especially state government) should be concerned with and caused a lot of problems for a lot of people and it made my week when he got nailed. My wife later told me she was surprised I could sleep that night because I was so excited. He broke many laws, federal laws and better be prosecuted to the fullest. There was talk that he was holding back on his resignation so that he could use that in a plea deal,if I resign that should make everything go away.Well that better not happen and if it does the people should be heard, that would be no different than the heads of the prostitution rings saying I will resign from pimping if all these charges go away.I say Hang Eliot High.
Whew!!Sorry I got off on a bit of a rant there, was it obvious that I loathe Spitzer??
"ALBANY, N.Y. — The state's new governor revealed Tuesday that he had affairs with several women, including a state employee. The confession came a day after he took over from former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who was driven from office amid a prostitution scandal."
First of all I most assuredly am not trying to minimize what he got caught in! My point was by doing what he was doing he provided someone (Mob? Political Controller? Some other Big Money manipulator? Other?) a "handle" that they could use to control him and thereby the people who were attacked and what contracts, audits, payments etc. were investigated. Yep, he went after a bunch of people but did you ever think that there may have been other people in similar positions doing the same thing, or even worse, that he "chose" not to prosecute?
As for an element of revenge, Heck yes, that is a very distinct possibility! The question to ask, especially in view of his rather heavy attack or revalations (you chose which) he had already submitted for publication where he pointed out the "sub-prime mortgage manipulation" and attendant published a day or two AFTER his outing. The Washington Post published it. The Title and lead were: "How the Bush Administration Stopped the States From Stepping In
to Help Consumers
By Eliot Spitzer".
Once someone who had been an asset becomes a liability, it should not surprise anyone that the liability would be neutered (or even worse if you could ask Vince Foster).
Now who do you think may have considered this as a hostile act? Next question, who controls the Justice Department that "outed" Spitzer? Next question, who has been accused of conducting many wire taps WITHOUT ANY WARRANT?
Incidentally, Pendennis, the illegal taps done by the phone company that are the subject of the Administration's fight to provide immunity include BOTH FISA AND NON-FISA actions. Check around the Internet and you will find FBI actions that even other federal agencies investigating the FBI have concluded grossly violated the warrantless taps and bugging far beyond FISA only actions.

Illegal surveillance is nothing new. It is just getting more effective with the advancements in technology.
prydek- It must be nice to be you. You have an attitude the whatever you think is right. It's like little Johnnie's mother saying," My Johnnie is the only one in the parade in step, everyone else is out of step"
Phone taps are a dilemma. Many times they are not legal but provide information to develop other evidence that is credible for a case.
I think you would be surprised if you knew how much of it goes on without warrants.
Ihad a police officer years ago coming into our store constantly pumping for technical information about telephone systems and wiretapping.
He was later convicted of illegal wiretap after he left the force and was a private detective. Went to prison too.
I just wonder how many phones he tapped illegally.
