As I type I'm listening to continued local news coverage here in the Chicago area about the gangs of teens that are robbing and mugging people in the Chicago down town area. It's at least the 4th instance of groups of 15 or more teens converaging on people robbing and beating them. When seconds count the police are minutes away. Think, if these punks ran in to some one that was legally carrying a weapon that this would continue? I doubt it would take long for even these stupid shits to figure out that they could end up on the wrong side of an ugly situation.

I am well familiar with the streest of Chicago, having lived there my whole life. I have a CCW from another state, but I seldom carry a weapon. Why?
Because a concealed weapon has to stay concealed. If I am confronted with someone with a gun, is he going to just stand there while I attempt to secure my weapon from my pocket or holster?

I favor "open carry." If you want to prevent being mugged or robbed, let
the assailant see that you have a gun, and it's right there where you can reach it. Open carry - yes. Concealed carry, o.k. but it doesn't solve the problem.

Bruce, I've been hearing and reading about the problem in Chicago. Like you I believe the problem could be taken care of - if just one person had a gun and blew away just one of the perps. Problem solved.

I visit Chicago occasionally. I've stayed and walked in the same areas that the assaults have been occuring. I don't have to go, so I guess I will stay home or find some other place.

I bet not one of those teenage punks has a Dad at home.

    "...groups of 15 or more...."

This is why there should never be any magazine capacity restrictions.

None of you should carry a gun. There were pictures taken of the congress woman before she was shot, it showed the gunman shooting other people before he shot her. In the crowd a man drew a gun and pointed it so it appeared to point at the shooter, he did nothing, he turned not putting his gun away into the crowd disappearing. The next day they stopped showing that.

If accosted by armed or unarmed assailants, I prefer to be armed. I may not have an opportunity to use my weapon. I may also choose not to USE it. Nevertheless, I prefer having a choice vs. not having a choice.

mrskeet obviously prefers to be left to the mercy and good intentions of criminals.

Slic Lee, I WILL carry a gun, if what u say is true the person that was there, drew his arm may have found he couldn't take a life. Maybe felt he wasn't defending himself/herself. Too many variables in a situation like that. Pull your head from your shorts (nice terms) !! To reiteriate I WILL CARRY

Slic Lee, you can do what you want. Living next to Detroit, I carry everywhere legally. Concealed or Open.

Michigan is an Open Carry state. It's in our constitution.

MI Constitution Article 1 Section 6

    § 6 Bearing of arms.
Sec. 6. Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

We also are acquiring concealed carry adults at the rate of 1 in every 26 adults.

Today - there are approximately 268,480 Michigan CPL holders.

You sir/ mam have NO right telling ANYONE, whether they can or should carry or not. Perhaps you need to sell your guns and join the anti gun crowd.

Yes there was a concealed carry person at that scene, he was interviewed and said he couldn't take the shot. Too many people running around. At least he was responsible enough to THINK before he started shooting.

He was one of them that detained that crazy azzhole.

Get your license, get your gun, and Train, Train, Train.

    Carry Safe ... Carry Often.

I think you're getting the facst wrong about the CCW guy. He ran out of the supermarket when he heard the shooting. He started to take his gun out because he saw someone holding a gun, but it was one of the people who had already disarmed and subdued the killer.

dickgtax, I stand corrected..... Interview here...

    http://1withabullet.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/concealed-carry-permit-holder-helped-subdue-giffords-shooter/

A concealed carry permit holder was one of those brave citizens that tackled the lone whack job that shot Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed and wounded many others. Joe Zamudio was leaving a Walgreen’s pharmacy when he heard gunshots… and ran toward them to see if he could help.

    .....

Here is a man that heard gunshots and ran towards them in an effort to help however he could. He did this without knowing the situation or who was in danger. Arriving on scene he recognized that the criminal was no longer a threat and provided assistance in restraining the assassin. Several things should be noted:

He did not draw a firearm and charge into an unknown situation. That would have added to the confusion, possibly leading to him being identified as a second gunman.
He was aware that there was a crowd and recognized the danger of hitting bystanders.
A person other than the assassin was in control of the firearm when Joe arrived. He did not misidentify the criminal and fire on an innocent.
He did not act as “judge, jury and executioner”.
He has stated (on the Fox and Friends interview) that he has no special training for such situations.

slic lee- What an asinine statement!!!! What does your misinformed story have to do with any of us?? Really you should think before making those kinds of ridiculous statments.

"None of you should carry a gun."

This statement sounds like you are one of the Anti's best friends.

The answer to me sounds like open carry when on the streets unless a cop drives by then you should conceal it until he is out of sight. Only in Illinois is the criminal more protected than the victim. Just a socialist state that turns out criminal and socialist politicians. If only cook county did not have the right to vote this state would be in much better hands.

BAD303-- You got that right. If the EPA wouldn't cite us for pollution, we could just cut Cook County off and let it float out and sink in Lake Michigan. That County has been corrupt since Al Capone's days. Some things never change. Maybe us in the rest of the State can start our own State like South Dakota only it would be South Illinois.

Where I grew up, everyone knows everybody can carry, and you can safely assume most do. This keeps the miscreants on good behavior. As children, we were also taught that guns are tools, just like a car, or a knife - you learn to respect it and not a toy that you play with. And if you carry, you better be damned good with it.

Those kids in those gangs have little fear of firearms. Thinking you can take on a gang of 15 or so with a pistol will be your greatest mistake.....you would be better served to not get cornered in the first place.
