Well, the temperature they say reached 101-102 on yesterday.

I'm here to tell you that was really hot.

    I shot for poop...........(Can't say sh*t)

Hard to see the birds when my eyeballs were sweating.

Supposed to reach 100 again today.

And some people complain about Sparta. ;-)

    Hauxfan!

State Trapshoot feels heat on opening day

    By ROD PAYNE - wcfcourier.com

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The 135th annual Iowa State Trapshoot got off to a miserable start Tuesday at the Cedar Falls Gun Club.

In fact, the high temperature of 98 exceeded the average score on a day when the safety of the participants outweighed the competition and a leisurely atmosphere developed.

"If you could take the heat out of the conditions here today, it would be the nicest day ever on this planet," said ATA president Dave Wickman. "So far this year we have had high winds at the Nebraska shoot, tornadoes in Michigan, it rained for three days down in Missouri and now the heat here in Iowa."

The weather was the main topic of conversation.

"Hopefully, we will get a little breeze tomorrow, which will be a big relief," Wickman said. "It will affect the targets some, but we will set them based on the given conditions.

"Overall, today went well as it was really just a day to loosen up and win your class for free targets," added Wickman. "Although I see my wife (Lori) won the resident lady shoot today ... that was good."

The Wickmans hail from Clear Lake.

"I believe Iowa has the best shoot in the land," continued Wickman. "It is a great facility, great background, the hospitality is second to none, and we have the most trophies of any shoot to give away.

"We offer the best and let the clays fall where they may."

3:30 and it's only up to 75* with a light breeze. Some cloud cover but a good day.

    Iowa man!!
My buddy called me last night and they are going to shoot the doubles that were scheduled for yesterday that got rain delayed first thing this morning before the championship doubles and handicap event. Not enough time for the singles I guess.

Sue, Thanks for the pictures. Looks like Iowa had a good State Shoot. I see where 56 shooters earned yardage in the Championship Handicap event on Sunday 7/24/11. This is good for the trapshooting game. Tom

    TjayE,

You are welcome. Glad you liked them. There's another thread with many more pictures, " More Iowa State Shoot Photos, Friday & Saturday". I sent hubby Terry to the shoot this year and told him to take a lot of pictures and e-mail them to me to post. He didn't stay for Sunday's event so no pics of that....sorry.

    Sue
