I am wondering if anyone knows of any indoor Clay Target Shooting ranges anywhere in the world?

I have a friend that is quite wealthy that is looking at converting a 45,000 square feet factory which has ceilings of over 100 feet. He wants to put back to back Trap/Skeet ranges and super impose two 5 Stand Sporting Ranges over the top. Adjoining would be an indoor Rifle / Pistol Facility.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I believe that there is an indoor skeet shooting facility in the Chicago area.

Ken, If I knew the size of the building, I could put it on Autocad. I already have the trap and skeet fields on a layer. Would be easy to do, especially trap and skeet.

Trap in Japan? I thought the Japanese trap team had to come to the USA to practice?

There was an indoor 5-stand, coupled with archery and pistol in PA. It is now defunct, but it had a name like "Rock River" or "Rock Run"...

It was set up inside a large warehouse-type building, had a cafeteria and full Pro Shop. Pricing, I recall was the problem with competition from area outside shotgun ranges.

You'd have to do something with the lead inside of the building.......I would think.

I've shot at an indoor range on Cheju Island in South Korea in 2001. I stood on a platform over the trap machines so it wasn't very challenging.

Adequate ventilation would be a huge issue. Lots of lead dust to deal with, I would think.

That may be it... the guy's name was "Nick ..."

He offered a two-tier 5 stand set up - I sat on a committee or two with the guy within NASR. The range employed some sort of wall covering to attenuate sound and mitigate shot ricochet (sic?). I would guess the same issues confronting indoor pistol ranges would need to be addressed with an indoor shotgun range, including lead reclamation.

The real issue was economics... can he make it work within the drawing radius, having local competition that already exists and how does he intend to chisel away enough customers to make the income statement pan out?! Needs some sort of niche to attract a customer base that would be less price sensitive...

Regardless, best of luck to you buddy on this endeavor,

    Jay
