All Ladies, Juniors, Sub-Juniors, Veterans, and Senior Veterans must
declare their special category at the time of their entry in any registered
event. Without such declaration at the shooter will not be allowed to
compete for the applicable special category trophy. No shooter will be
allowed to declare a special category after the first shot is fired in the
event by the contestant. No exceptions to this rule are allowed.
Lady, Junior, Sub-Junior, Veteran and Sr. Veteran shooters who declare
such eligibility shall be so designated.

1. All female shooters shall be designated as Ladies, because of age
they may also be designated as Juniors, Sub-Juniors, Veterans or
Sr. Veterans.

2. A shooter who has not reached his or her 15th birthday will be
designated as a Sub-Junior.

3. A shooter who is 15 but has not reached his or her 18th birthday will be designated as a Junior.

Target Minimums are up to each individual State and don't affect your participation as a Sub-Junior but may have a penalty yardage requirement.

Sub-Junior is a category and a Category shooter is also in the running for Class trophies the same as anyone else. Each State can establish their own target minimums for Penalty Class and Penalty Yardage provided they print them in the official shoot program. If you sign up as a Sub-Junior nobody can take away your right to compete for the Sub-Junior trophies but you might be in a Penalty Class for Class trophies if you don't meet the minimum target requirements.

Mike TMX is basically correct, but there are certain nuances about being a Sub-Junior and Junior and the ability to stay one for a while after your 15th and 18th birthdays, respectively, which are best understood by reading the rulebook.

Minnesota has no penalty for Sub-juniors (or anyone but adult males, really) but the Grand has them for everyone except Senior Vets. Other states, other shoots, set their own criteria. Browning guy, the only way to answer the question you have posed is to read the program for the shoot you are thinking about and seeing what it says.

jevoila- Are these requirements for the current year or for the 2007 + 2008 years?

How will changing the target year from Nov-Oct affect these requirements?

Pat --

Per the ATA rule book... "The 2008 target year runs from September 1, 2007 thru October 31, 2008", so it will not change the target requirements for this state shoot. It will for the 2009 state shoot, I would imagine. That will be up to next year's BOD to decided and I will be Ex-Officio (read: not going to meetings anymore) by then.

These requirements are from 09.01.07 until tues of the state shoot (07.08.08). These are not requirements to shoot, just to avoid penalty classification. There are waivers also -- all of this will be in the program which should be finalized by the end of April.

John, those target minimums look to me like qualifications to make the State Team and NOT to merely qualify for competing for the Category trophies at the State Shoot ?? How many targets would a Sub-Junior have to shoot before being allowed to compete for Sub-Junior trophies at the State Shoot ??

Put Texas on your 2008 shooting schedule.

CLASSIFICATION WILL BE BASED ON THE HIGHEST OF:

LAST YEAR’S AVERAGE - THIS YEAR’S AVERAGE - KNOWN ABILITY

Any shooter who has registered less than 500 16-yard, 1000 Handicap, and 300 Doubles for the current year and previous two (2) years aggregate will be required to shoot penalty yardage and classification. Preliminary day's targets will apply to minimum target requirements. Penalty classification and yardage will be:

Men B- 22- B

Ladies C- 20- C

Juniors B- 22- B

Sub-Juniors C- 20- C

Vet. & Sr. Vet. B- 22- B

The program will not be up on texastrap.com until a couple of weeks into April.

Mike,

You are correct. My dates were correct, but the number of targets was not. I thought they were a little high when I was typing them in...

Singels -- must have 500 or penalty class A

Handicap -- must have 500 or penalty 25 yards

Doubles -- must have 200 ot penalty class A

Tuesday's targets count for the target requirement, but the shooter must be reclassified after Tuesday.

Other notes: we will still have 1/2 price targets for Juniors or Sub Juniors -- they may not play options if they opt for this but are still eligible for added money.

Penalty waiver is available for Sr. Vets only.

More to come when we finish the program.

Thanks,

John
