What a dumb saying. Maybe it isn’t always what it is but then I have never heard anyone say it isn’t what it isn’t . . . I wonder why.
It could be it is what it was or, in some cases, it was what it isn‘t.

In the past tense, would you say it was what it was and if two people are involved would it be plural and necessary to say, it were what it were?

Maybe I should end this now since I’m not who I am.

    Shoot well, everyone.

    BB?

I agree. I hate that saying. My wife says it all the time, along with some of my co-workers. I cringe when I hear it....

The one that bothers me the most is when someone says "hi".

Booger: I was just discussing this topic with my wife on the way to the video store. She says: "it is, what it is" means there is nothing you can do about it, so that's the way it stays.

I knew that you needed this info, so I forwarded it to you.

Well, I am not a grammar usage nazi nor an English major; I learned a long time ago not to correct people (except my kids - there it's my duty as a father).

At my last decent job, I had a co-worker who habitually said two things that really bugged me: he used the phrase "I could care less", and I always wanted to reply to him, "I'll bet you care so much less that you couldn't care less!".

He also combined the word 'irrespective' and its synonym 'regardless' to form 'irregardless', a non-word.
