For many years the state of Illinois has managed a "put and take" pheasant hunting program every fall at sites around the state. They are having budget problems this year and have proposed to end it. Here is a reply I received today from the Illinois DNR:

Thanks for your inquiry. Action on the state budget has not yet occurred. However, at a time when the state and national economies are struggling, we cannot afford to subsidize the Controlled Pheasant Hunting Program. One of those sites has been Eldon Hazlet. The state's primary focus is education, healthcare and human services. While the proposed budget would close the controlled pheasant hunting program, we are determined to refrain from laying off any employees, instead distributing them throughout other state facilities to help strengthen other services provided in Illinois.

From what I understand they are keeping the program because they would stand to lose too much by eliminating it...Rod Blagojovic is an ant-gun SOB that is trying to steal the money out of the pockets of the sportmen themselves....It is common knowledge that he has never even set foot inside an IL State Park not including Sparta for his photo ops at the grand opening....This guy is a real clown!

I called down to Springfield and found out that the Pheasant Program is safe for this year because the hatch has already happened but may not be around long without our show of support...Please make sure if your an IL resident and would like to see this program around for future generations make some noise now and keep turning up the volume!!! We can't let this anti-gun, anti-sportsman state take something like this away from the people that value Hunters Rights! Send e-mails to Sam.Flood@Illinois.gov to show your support. Rod Blogjovic has already cut DNR budgets by 40% and is looking for more ways to steal from the wallets of the hunters...Let's stop him before it's too late!
