    .

Seems like Singles classification may be based on the average for the season, the average of recent targets, and/or "known ability".

Let's say someone has a large variability in their 16 yard scores.

One day they shoot 96 and 99. That sounds like an "A" shooter.

But the next day under similar weather circumstances they shoot 75 and 79. Heck, is there an "E" class ? These poor scores will keep their average low forever.

What is the "known ability" of people with high variation in their scores ?

Is it their highest score or the average of their five highest scores ?

That is exactly what I do. I shot a 199 one day and a 64 3 days later. think about that for a few days. Leo, Phil, Ricky Marshall, Nora, Harlan, and Britt clinics couldn't solve it.Birdtracker

20 years ago I ran the registered shoots at our little club. In singles I classified by average over the last 500 targets. If a guy had an abnormally low or high score we would discount that when figuring the averages.

Some days are nice and some days it rains and I shoot the same way.

I have not shot for 3 months do to eye surgery and I am a sorry sight but fighting old age issues for my love of shooting hell I'm out there and that is a joy and seeing my friends is a real bonus I went to the club to be with them even when I could not shoot. Mostly to protect my image as these guys will chew me up in a heart beat !!

So what do you say to that guy who shoots a 99 at every shoot that puts a dime in his pocket.. . but the friendly registered shoots with no money or trophy is when he shoots nothing higher then an 89.

In what class do you put him/her??

If I have my "required" target amounts in and "someone" wants to classify me at a "different" average than my card. I decline, and if "they" don't classify me at my average I would never go back to that venue!

I always get asked this question.

"How many 100 straights can you shoot and remain in <strike> C </strike> B class!"

It's only natural a healthy shooter would question another that may shoot like a house afire one event and can hardly mount his gun the next shooting a terrible score.

Lucky is the younger or older trap shooter thats never had major health problems that bring about such inconsistency's. Whats the average age of trap shooters?

Hap's right here. I have days when my meds work for me and others when it's quite the opposite. Those meds can make you great or a goat.

Constant pain can really mess with us geezers too. Mine never goes away.

Tough to be consistant, at the GLG I shot a 99 from the 20, then moved back to the 21 and shot a couple of 95's, then at the State Shoot in perfect weather with perfect targets and feeling like a million dollars I shoot an 88.
Please do tell me what's wrong.

This issue and the reactions to varying scores is why I no longer shoot ATA.

Try shooting good scores when you can hardly stand up straight because of back pain. The next day it may not hurt as bad and the scores go up.

likes-to-shoot, I can relate. With (8) screws and (2) rods in my low back, it can be a real challenge to perform at top level.

Matt, you've yet to perform at a top level. I hear you're much better on Rabbits.

Alright, I'll admit I broke a 100 at a small Saturday registered shoot and came back to another club on Sunday and broke 81. That was many years ago and I still remember the abuse the old timers heaped on me. Thankfully, they've all passed on or I'd still be hearing about it!!
