My biggest downfall in trapshooting is the lack of my ability to relax while trapshooting. I shoot good scores when relaxed but terrible when under stress. Any ideas on this one. Thanks

Listen to music. It will help keep the "little SOB" from dominating your thoughts.

What kind of music. I'm totally deaf in one ear. No ear drum removed. I also noticed when shooting under stress the target tends to control me rather that I control the target.

Just curious - how do you listen to music while on the line shooting ? Do you have earmuffs that have an input for music feed ?

I also noticed that stress while trapshooting also leads to lack of concentration. A very hard battle fight.

"Thinking Body, Dancing Mind" is a good book.

Haven't read it in years, but it's worthwhile.

Lanny Bassham's "Mental Management" series can help too.

E.A.R. makes "sports monitor" hearing protection that you can use with an MP3 player if you want to listen to music.

I have found that I am really relaxed when I am convinced the only thing I have to do to have a good day is break one bird. The next bird. Thats it. All there is to it. I cant break a hundred with this next shot, all I can break is one. Heck I can make one shot. There is no pressure to break "one in a row" I dont care what angle it is, from whatever station it is. I can make this next shot. So can you, man. Couple minutes later, I'll do it again. Piece of cake.

It's not life or death.. It's just you against your self. After you shoot more competition you will forget about what everyone else is doing and begin to consitrate on what you need to do. It's just a game after all. Enjoy it.

If you're just now finding out that I listen to the Dead, then you haven't been paying very good attention.

You ought to try it. Might be just what you need to get to AA Doubles.

Breathing excercise. Breath in for a count of 4, hold it for a count of 4 and exhale for a count of 4. A very famous and successful trapshooter told me that. It has both a physical and psychological effect.

While doing deep breathing, say a short prayer...give thanks for being in America and being able to shoot trap. Others aren't so lucky. Regards, Ed

My wife performs therapy once or twice on me in the morning and I am relaxed for the whole day.

Try some classical or some of the stuff Terry Jordan listens to,,,,very soothing. Some like rock or Elvis,,,just don't start singing or dancing while on the line....
