I ws wrong. I purchased a bottle of Shooter's Choice last night and cleaned my clean guns with it. Holy cow! The black kept coming and coming. I started to think the stuff was dissolving the barrel itself. Finally, the patches came out clean.
Please note that I have no financial interest in the Ventco company. Just commenting on a surprising experience.
I still have the Scotchbrite jags and can still make the carbon fiberglass cleaning rods in any length you want. I can also set them up for use with a ball type grip or for use with an electric drill.
You can contact me at 775-265-7523 anytime. Leave a message if I'm out and I'll get back to you quickly. Email works too. I can also do adjustable combs, pads, recoil reducers and wood repair/refinishing now that I'm semi-retired. I'll put my work up with anyone's and I have references to back me up.
Something I learned from an old gunsmith. Take a bore brush that shows some use and wrap it with strands of a copper pan scrubber, available at most grocery stores. The strands will cling to the old bore brush and scrub with bore cleaner. I use hoppes #9 with this combination. This will remove plastic wad residue in the bore and clean the bore without any damage. You can use the extra Hoppes #9, left over for after shave lotion!
I ordered the barrel wizard & the can of shotgun/choketube cleaner and its coming today. After this weekend I will have 1000-1200 round through the gun. I'm so eager to see that plastic come out.
From what I understand the rod comes apart and doubles as a chamber/choke tube brush.
I forgot to update. This barrel wizard is no joke.
I used the "shotgun/choke tube cleaner" that they make and now I can tell that the barrels have a different shine to them after I cleaned them compared to using just Hoppes #9.
It took about 4 passes each barrel with the rod to get a fairly clean paper towel to come out
