I am on another forum and a guy is asking if his 28" 870 will work for trap and clays. He has never shot either and wants to get more involved with his kid and start shooting trap and clays. Everything is going fine until this guy comes on and tells him a pump won't work for trap and clays and he NEEDS to buy an 1100.

What is it with these people that think you have to have a specialized gun to step onto the 16 yard line? Ridiculous.

    Thanks for letting me rant
    Darin

Well I just saw has a friend who gives barrel advice.

Ready for this? Longer barrels with tighter chokes are for Skeet, while your shorter barrels with open chokes are for clays and trap.

Needless to say I have removed myself from this thread and will not go back.

I don't know squat, I've been shooting with my brother (Calkidd) on and off for 20 years and I am just now to the point where I am no longer an effing idiot. I have graduated to plain ol' idiot...lol.

    Darincraft,

You'll find in the shotgun sports there are a lot of wives tales and deeply held beliefs that have no basis in fact or reality.

And when people challenge these beliefs with science, tests, and facts, they are branded as heretics.

What forum is this you are talking about?

I got a 34 inch barrel because I wanted a longer sighting plane; then I blacked out the front bead so I wouldn't look at it.

The title of this thread is nothing new. "Hark! Hark! What lips are these that speaketh without a tongue?!" (Spoken by a very nearsighted man who is WAAAY too close to the source of a loud fart.) Chaucer's Canturbury Tales, 15th century. Jack Farrow

Actually, it is a well established fact that no gun other than the kind I use is acceptable for trap. All hail me, all hail me.....

Glad I could share that bit of insight with you.
