You finally get to the end of January. Whew! Winter is over half done if you are optimistic, right? Hello to February. Freezing rain, 20 inches of snow and 40mph winds. I am ready to tell this state to shove its snow shovel up its a**.

Crooked politicians, FOID cards, waiting periods, bad roads, high taxes(10% sales taxes on some stuff for crap sake!) I HATE this state.

241 days, 7 hours, and 34 minutes from now I retire. Please give me some suggestions for a retirement location for a casual trapshooter and fisherman. Don't like cold so someplace south of like Memphis?

Headed for Austin for a week on March 1. Want to see the Kerrville Olympic facility. Any opinions?

    Thanks guys.

Another month and a half and I can go south for a few weeks to play golf. It is fun to meet new people on the course and tell them, when they ask where you're from, that I come from where the governor's make the license plates...they always know that it is Illinois. Now I can also tell them that I'm from the state where their new jobs are coming (running) from.

Obammy said in the address the other night that since HE passed the tax cuts that our paychecks would get bigger. Mine came yesterday and it was about a hundred bucks less...from Illinois tax increase.

Glad those of you that can are leaving. It leaves more for us who are trapped to complain about.

Where to start...last state without ccw, foid (oops, already mentioned)...

Why in the world would anybody leave the socialist paridise of Illinois? Just because they raised income tax rates 65% there shouldn't bother anybody, it sure doesn't bother likes-to-shoot. You gentlemen should be thankful for the opportunity to pay taxes so the crooked Chicago political maching can continue to pay off it's employees and their unions. I'm very disappointed in you....

These three kids are sitting around talking, and the first kid says, "My dad is so fast, he can shoot an arrow down range and run down there to see where it lands".

The second little kid says, "That's nothing, my dad is so fast that when he goes to sleep at night and turns off the lights, he can be in bed before the room gets dark".

The third little kid says, "I got all you guys beat. My dad is a Chicago politician. He's so fast that when he gets off of work at 4:30, he's home by 2:15".

Corrupt state run by a corrupt city - Chicago. I used to travel there in business. Thank God that is over!

Retirement location: Idaho, least government intervention into your life and still has some great hunting spots!

Oh ya you can shoot wolves there! That helps the surrounding states with their problem!

You may be right oldtimer, but I think that is only a reason to be a visitor, not a resident.

Idaho, hmmm. Planning my summer vacation to Fort Peck, Montana. May have to make a side trip.

You forgot no NFA weapons in commy Illinois either, one of two states in the union. I guess big brother believes we do not need the hobby of shooting, collecting, and investing in those either, even though they are protected by the US constitution. Maybe it had something to do with Capone, that was only 80 years ago.

    Cute...
Every Red Blooded American should jump in line to support the Green Bay Packers !
The Packers defeated the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon thus earning them the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl.
By doing so, they saved the Hard-Working, Red-Blooded, Taxpaying Americans literally several million dollars of tax money.
    How you say?
Simple... we were told that if the Chicago Bears had won, President Obama (and probably his family) would be attending
the Super Bowl to cheer on his hometown team.
Since the Bears lost..the President won't be attending.
The money saved from not using Air Force 1, the limousines, all the additional security,
and let's not forget Michelle Obama's entourage, is literally several million dollars!
Therefore every American should cheer on the Green Bay Packers at the Super Bowl to show them our gratitude.
Oh...and let's not forget to thank Chicago Bear's Quarterback Jay Cutler for his role in the Packer's success!
With that said...let's circulate this e-mail to everyone we know so they can understand why they should cheer for America 's team

... The Green Bay Packers !

Illinois is more just plain corrupt and not so socialist as, say a New York or California or Oregon. Most of the corruption is just plain oldtimey political thievery. Don't ever think that Obama is a "touchy- feely" kind of guy. He's just a chameleon. He changes to whatever environment he's in.

If socialism works then he's a socialist.

If community organization through corrupt unions works then he's a community organizer.

If the middle class and the right are gaining ground in the current political environment then he's centrist.

He and his string pullers are doing anything they can to take over the economic power of the United States.

WE HAVE TO THROW THIS GUY OUT OF THE WHITEHOUSE. REPUBLICANS, GET YOUR STUFF TOGETHER OR THE TEA PARTY WILL RISE AGAIN AND, THIS TIME WE'LL GET YOU. WE'RE STILL HERE WAITING FOR SOME KIND OF CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP. SO FAR THE REPUBLICANS HAVE SHOWN LITTLE IN THAT REGARD.

You are going to like Montana and Idaho Doug but both of those states have pretty severe winters. Check out northern NV if you are looking for mild climate and some decent fishing oportunities. Plenty of trap clubs to keep you busy too. Good place for the hunter and shooter. Excellent time to buy real estate. Especially good if you like small towns.

Doug you might want to look around the Kentucky Lake/Barkley Lake area in Kentucky/ Tennessee. Good fishing, winters not bad, and it would be close to IL in case you want to go back and visit.

Virginia Beach VA is the place for you - good trap/skeet/ five-stand range - our winters are quite mild with some years having no snow - this year one 14" fall- gone the next few days-
Great fishing in both the Chesapeake bay and Atlantic ocean- and fresh water lakes too
    Good hospital system

Might I suggest Eufaula, Alabama. There is some of the best fishing anywhere on the lake and in the surrounding area. They actually still have a good bit of wild quail, lots of dove and deer hunting. There are several places to shoot in the surrounding area. It does still get cold(to me) but nothing like up north. I live in South Georgia but have a fish camp close to the lake and love it. Jackie B.

I live in far west central MT. I moved from NW Indiana(Hammond area)about 16 yrs ago. The most impt thing is to be within 25-30 miles of really good docs/hospitals.You may not need them now but you will in the future. With that will come a decent selection of commercial needs. It is nice to go to go to a decent place to eat now & then. And when you can't even find a good donut, hot dog or pizza in practically the whole state. It sucks. And don't EVEN think about componants. Nobody has a bag of shot within 200 miles of me I bet. You may hate the Wal-Mat but when you have to drive 53 miles one way to find one, well that gets old in a hurry. Also as you get older like me you will not be able to shoot much. Too much strain on the body. Weather is next. Look at the temp/moisture averages but watch out for micro climete spots. Here we have 3 feet of snow a year,35 miles south,25 feet,25 miles east & west 15-20 feet.
ALWAYS take into account how far you have to go to get what you may need/want.
I have a great trap club with trap, skeet 5-stand & a bunker but the 125 mile round trip is a killer due to age. Think about the resale when you have to leave. My wife taught in Illinois, good pension & medical but that is it. I could keep writing. The best thing is to do your homework & if you can, live there for a year.
