Just curious. I am 58 and just started shooting trap about a year ago. I haven't gotten involved with registered shooting but definitely thinking about it.

Was wondering how old you were when you got to the 26 or 27 handicap?? Just curious if or how much age may help or hinder getting there. I notice that my eyesight (fast focus) and reflexes aren't what they used to be. Gee, imagine that:)

I'm 54 years old and have been shooting ATA for three years. Did well through years one and two and got punched to the 22 1/2 yard line. Did not get a punch in the last year. So you could say I haven't been there or done that...

First trap targets 1971, 19 years old.

    First registered targets 1976

First Grand, 1977, 24-1/2 yrd. line. Two yards Prelim Thursday.

    27 yard line, Sept. 1977

    1400 cap targets.

You can do this when you are single and spend EVERY cent you earn on shooting. LOL, No way I could have done that if I was married and had a family.

I shot my first registered targets in March 1978, 31 years old. I reached the 27 for the first time in June 2008, 61 years old, and 29,600 registered handicap targets later. I must be a late bloomer.

I was 55 the first time I pulled the trigger at a trap target. 20 months later, I was standing on the 27 and wondering what the hell I was doing there. Waffeled back and forth a time or 2 and now wonder why I don't take the final reduction???...LOL..merlyn......

Made it to 26 first year of registered from temporary 22, then 27 early the next year. I was 26 years old. I'm 62 now and only shoot a few hundred registered 27 yard targets per year. 95 is the best in 2 years but I break 25's in almost all hdcp. events with only about 1/3 of my eyesight left from surgery.

Starship, get in there boy. The trip to the 27 will be the trip of a lifetime! Getting my 27 yard pin was like winning the lottery, or going to Heaven...

Started shooting registered in 2001 and made it to the 27 in 5 yrs 6 mo. I was 53 and it happened at the first Grand in Sparta. 99 will get you 2 yards and no chance of a reduction for 2 years.

Shot a bit before but got more into the game thanks to a group of kids that wanted my help so I restarted at the 20 last year at the age of 41 spent a week in Pheonix in Jan earned some yardage spent the next 8 month's on the 25 got a yard at the Grand this year to the 26 and Sept 1 got my last yard and repeat winner of a traveling trophy that has some Area Big names to include Bueford Baily from Big Springs, Nebraska . I hope to retire that tropy so I will always remember some of those old timers of my youth. Jeff Murr

Rather than setting your goal at the 27 yard line try to become the best shooter you can and forget age.
