I have a Browning A-5 Light 12, manufactured in 1962. I am storing this gun in a sock inside a safe. How heavy of a coat of oil do I need to put on the barrel and receiver? Does an older gun require different oiling techniques than a newer model? The A-5 is 98% and I wouldn't want anything to happen to it.

I do the exact same thing... just a light coat from an oil rag, nothing running - swab the bore lightly as well. If you have a gold rod humidifier - great if not a desicant can works well also to absorb misc moisture.
