Pukey, for some reason I have a problem believing that you are shooting from the 27 yard line, as a registered shooter. However if you are congratulations. RG

It took me 2200 targets(not rounds but targets). This for me was a little over a year.

About 11 months. A friend I started with made it in 10 months. We had bet $20 on who would make it first. He won.

I spent 10 years getting to the 23. Then I took my first Phil Kiner Clinic and got to the 27 in three months of shooting.

The first time I made it in 2 years. Made the 27 shooting a 90 in the handicap at a small club in terrible weather and winning it. This was in the days when winning a handicap automatically got you a yard. Did I deserve to be on the 27? Not at that time. I wasn't good enough to maintain the 27. Took a couple yardage reductions over the next few years, and finally, after many more years trying, worked my way back to the 26, earning every yard the hard way: I worked for it!. I was stuck there for almost 4 years, getting close many times, but just not getting that final yard back. This year, things started to finally come together for me and at the PITA Grand Pacific this year, I finally broke a 97 in a preliminary handicap and got that yard! Since then, my handicap average has been consistant with what a 27 yard shooter should be carrying. Making the 27 this second time is twice as gratifying to me because this time I honestly deserve to be on the 27 and my scores support that. I made the 27 the first time way too fast, and it was just by luck that I got it.....Just my experience....Dan Thome (Trap2)

In that the current handicap system is a mishmash of nonsense, luck plays to great a role in the time it takes to get to the 27. You still need the talent, you still need to develop it and you need to shoot registered regularly to make the 27 but the actual time it takes is very much dependent on luck.

I carry a 91.6 handicap ave. on 1500 targets in 2007 and still only picked up 1/2 yard. Lots of runner-ups with 93, 94, and 95's. I'll probably never get there, damn it. Richard

I started shooting registered in 1964 and it took many years to finally make the 27. I figured my tombstone would be a 24 yard sidewalk block. I stayed on the 27 for over 10 years until they raised the reduction trigger point to 90 and since then I have moved forth and back (Swedish expression) 25 to 27 and I am currently at 27 again.

Joined The ATA on 10/12/2003. I just got punched to the 27 on 9/2/07.

I spent alot of time bouncing between the 22 and the 24 (I hated those

middle yardages). I hope to keep myself at the 27 (400 targets 92.5 avg) so

far. Good Luck & Keep Shooting.....Rick

Shoot from the 27 every chance you get--don't listen to all those experts who say you have to learn to shoot from the shorter yardages before you move back--YOU'LL NEVER LEARN TO SHOOT FROM THE BACK FENCE UNLESS YOU PRACTICE THERE--then go to a big shoot, let them penalize you for not having registered enough hdcp targets--you may have to start out around the 25 yd line--there's not that much difference between the 25 and the 27--since you're used to shooting from the 27 you should be able to work your way back in one or two shoots--this will only work if you shoot enough from the 27 to start with and have learned to shoot good scores from back there--note: this advice does not apply to BRAND NEW shooters but if you are stuck in the middle yardages it will work fairly quickly.

    Iam tired now . I want to go back . But I did shoot 94 , 97 , 91 & 90 last week in Delta from the fence , so maybe I'll stay a little while anyway . I dunno .

I don't shoot from 27 yds. I miss enough at the 16 yd line.
