Lead is much softer. If you can easily scrape it it's lead.

Lead is denser (heavier) and harder than zinc.

After a while you can tell just picking them up - the lead 'feels' heavier and softer, the zinc has a more rigid, tinny, light feel.

It's not 100%, but it gets you to a point where the zinc left will float easily. If it does melt in it should be in a low enough concentration to not mess up the flow.

Most all the current Zinc weighs I have seen have Zn cast right on them. Keep in mind that a one ounce Zinc will be about 1/2 again larger than a lead one.Keep the melt temperatur low to just melt the lead ones. The antimony man says about 600 degrees this way you will not burn off the tin and antimony.
