I got some bags of reclaimed lead shot, but I want to sort it out. What is the best way to sort it out?

I sort mine in the air. Load it up and shoot it. It don't matter.

Edit: I'll add I only shoot the Lead Miners reclaim.

The stuff I get has been cleaned, size sorted, and regraphited, and looks like new, except for some small dimples on some of the shot. If yours is right out of the ground, I would at least run a strong magnet over it. Mark

    Dead or Lost.

    I make two piles.

I put all of the "Lost" shot in one pile.

I put all of the "Dead" shot in another pile.

I only load all of the "Dead" shot.

There is enough deformation in the shot that there is NO way to accurately sift it for size. Load it up and shoot it.

I guess I will just sort it in the air. Load and shoot it.

Reclaimed shot is so un-round I don't believe you could sort it in the normal way; through sized screen (McMaster-Carr). If I could get some reclaimed shot I'd melt it down and make new shot out of it.

Well there is others reclaimed lead shot then there is mine. As long as you keep mine sesperate from theirs then you are good to shoot. Load up and have more fun. The good stuff looks like this.

Do you ever wonder why I am the only guy selling reclaimed lead shot on this site and lists a picture of what it looks like. Hmmmmm must be a reason. Plus I deliver exactly what you see. Good , clean, and polished. Not perfect but as good as I can get it.

    Terry. Aka. Lead Miner

PS. There are others that do sell good reclaimed on here. Just check it out before you buy.

Anyone thinking Terry's(Lead Miners) shot picture is rigged, here is a bag I bought from him and dumped in this tub. All round and clean.

I keep some in the bag, some in the tube, and some loose on the basement floor. This seems to work for me!

My theory is that the shot gets the dimples when it is compressed together during the initial explosion in the shell and going down the barrel. It sure doesn't get deformed flying through the air or falling to the ground. So new shot looks just like reclaim before it exits the barrel. I have had good success with the performance of my reloads, shooting reclaim shot. Mark

    Matt,

Not to get nick picky but I can see a few not so round pellets in the bucket ... If I was a reloader I would not hesitate to shoot the shot from Lead Miner for a New York second ... The man obviously takes pride in what he delievers ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I'll also add that it runs through my loader as good as new shot does. I have not had any bridging issues. I ran a pretty strong magnet through it and didn't pick up so much as a speck of steel.

I put cases of 28ga ammo near the front of the garage as it gets used fastest. I put cases of 10ga ammo on the shelf until bird season. When that comes I put them next to the 28ga hunting ammo near the front of the garage closest the door of the Suburban. 12ga cases are stacked on the back wall until needed.

When it's time to "load shells" I open the back door of the Suburban and toss cases of ammo inside. It's a pretty simple system. You might give it a try. Jeff
