It depends on a number of factors ... Are you buying it from a private individual or a dealer? If it is a private person, do they live close to the border? By far the easiest and fastest is if the American can meet you at Canada Customs. You will still need to register the gun in Canada (before you bring it into Canada), which is a simple process and it needs to be verified. This can all be done through the Firearms Centre. If you bought it through a dealer, then it has to go through a licensed FFL in the US with an export license.
I have done it both ways. The laws in this area are changing all the time, so nothing is etched in stone. Bill Malcolm
You are correct Earl and they will also collect the PST from you at the border. The only way around that is if you happen to purchase the gun from an American who is up here for a shoot and you purchase it from them at the shoot. Bill Malcolm
You can purchase one from me right now. I'll keep it here in my safe for use to use when I'm not shooting it at the club. Let me know if interest, aye!
Another alternative is to have a company do it for you.
http://www.questar.ca/ offers this as a service.
