    Why Oregon is Failing

"Only one thing remained to drive the economy: housing. A torrent of Californians were heading north--cashing out of the overpriced Bay Area, Sacramento and Los Angeles--and buying new homes in Oregon. Some sophistos sashayed their way into trendy places like Portland's Pearl District, but many others looked to the charming smaller towns of the Willamette Valley and central Oregon.

"When all else failed, it was people moving here that kept us going," says Klapper, who was a major investor in the Pearl District renaissance. "California became our biggest industry."

This dependence turned into a debilitating addiction. When in 2007, the great California housing bubble collapsed, the inflow of people and dollars dropped off. Meanwhile, the remnants of lumber industry fell victim to the housing bust."

    Right back at ya

California is not doing well for sure, but it still maintain it's position as the 7th largest economical entity in the world, way ahead of more than two hundred Countries in the world.

Oregon is failing because of inflated home prices that were unsustainable, coupled with elimination of lumber industry jobs statewide, along with a general downturn in business, with gasoline in the form of higher taxes being dumped on businesses. Businesses that might have hired more workers are holding off because the tax increases ate up the money.

My daughter lives in Idaho. According to her, it's hard to find anyone not from California in that state.

The absolute biggest problem in Calyfornia (Money wise) is the unfunded current and future State,County and public Union Retirement requirments, 1 person working 3 people retired, it does not work.

In the real world if ya ain't got it, ya can not spend it.

Our small manufacturing company in the last 10 years = Lost health care and lost 401K. It was a compremise of keep the doors open and customers taken care of or close.

With the states and Feds, they have but to spend with little to no accountability to the taxpayer. It's use the budget or loose it. They will not cut anything. They just lay on more taxes and fees. They are oblivious to the term "Down Sizing".

Take take take take take, that is the Government (all branches) moto. Watch out for these key words ( For the Children, This will hurt the retirees, social justice, for the good of the people, redistribution of wealth)

Very few if any, certainly not the majority, of legislaters have ever ran a buisness or understands what profit and lose is. What I see now is all and I mean all they care about is how do I get reelected from the day they take office till they are voted out or resign.

I am 58 years old and what I see right now is the damnedest disreguard for the American Way from a President and Congress, that I have ever seen in my life.

You have a card toeting Marxest Communist Socialist Muslim as President of the United States who doesn't give a Rats ass about any of us. I am at the point of beleiving this guy is the Manchurion Candidate on steroids or has a 666 hidden on his scalp, being manipulated through funding and direct contact with George Soros's vast non profit organizations.

We have to, I mean all of us, we have to VOTE these SOB's out of office ASAP and at every opportunity do so. You can bet your ass that the 37% that like what is happening will be at the poles in number.

I will get off my soap box now.

Apparently Reid gets a pass from the NRA, though.

Guys CA is already broke. The problem is there is no "proceedure" for a state to file bankruptcy.

If there were, the Arnold would have pulled the plug last year, and gotten out of all of the contracts they have with the unions, and that includes their pension funds, which don't exist, because the same people that made the agreements, spent the money already.

I really don't know what these morons are going to do to fix this. Gerry Brown is a joke, and if Meg gets elected and there is not a radical change in the makeup of the congress in CA she'll end up exactly like Arnold.

I heard Tom Arnold on the Howard Stern Show on Radio the other day and he said Arnold was so done with the job of being governor. He came in with the best of intentions, didn't even take a salary, and all he's got to show for it is more gray hair. The Dems wouldn't allow him to do anything. All he could do is slow down what they were doing.

The economic problems in California, Oregon, Illinois, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, et. al. can be summed up in two words - liberal democrats.

    The solution - conservatives.
