The California SCTP runs competitive events from March through to the State shoot in mid June, they usually schedule 5 or 6 events (six this year) and they are very well run and fantastic competitions. A shoot is held at a different club in the rotation and the kids shoot 100 singles targets. Kind of like an ATA shoot - just singles only. The 1st shoot was in Los Banos and we had 204 kids register. the 2nd shoot was at Angles Camp and we had 223 kids register. The third event is this saturday at Coon Creek and that is usally the biggest event apart from the State shoot - we could easily have 240 kids there. The State Director (Gail Miller) has done a terrific job setting up the schedule and organizing the events and they run like clockwork although it can be a long day at the smaller clubs. The kids all shoot on team squads (just like state and nationals) but the events are basically individual events with trophies to 1st/2nd/3rd in each division and no team awards.

Do any other States run similar events? How do y'all compete leading up to the State shoot?
