Will this brush damage the barrel on a Urika Optima 391? Sure does a good job but seems rather abrasive.

    Thanks

I feel better using a brush that is softer than gun barrel steel but harder than plastic.

I don't see myself putting one of those down a decent gun.

If you have that much plastic, take the barrel(s) off, move the wooden bits far away, and go at it with acetone.

Its job is to get the stuck-on debris out of the gun bore.

Do a search - see if you can find any negative comments about the stainless tornado brushes. On this site, EVERYTHING is picked on, but while the tornado brushes have been questioned, I can't recall ever hearing about anyone ever actually damaging their firearm bore with one.

I use one every so often, when I just need that something extra...

    regards to all,

    Jay

I have used one in the past.

The fact that the stainless wires are in a loop and the loop is what contacts your barrel bore is why they probably don't do any more damage to yoru barrel bore than any other cleaning device.

That being said, I usually have a thin cloth patch over them when I use them.

Eventually, the stainless wires break. The tip ends of the broken wires are pretty stiff and, I suppose, could scratch the bore.

I pitched the one I had when a couple of the wires broke.

I saw a Tornado type brush once that looked like it was made of copper wire. Anybody know if anyone makes a copper Tornado brush? Thanks...Bill

Stainless steel is softer than gun barrel steel. I have also taken the hide off of myself using a brass bore brush but never with a Tornado brush.

    Bob,

Depends on the stainless. But in this case, you're probably correct.

There was a post on here some time ago where somebody stated they had put a scratch in the bore when their stainless tornado brush broke. I think it was a year or two back. I only use the Bore Tech brass ones but there may be other brands also.

I have some expensive guns and use one exclusively. I squirt Remoil down the barrel and make 3-4 passes with the bare brush then I put a pad on it and clean the residues that have broken loose. It takes a certain amount of abrasion to get the plastic build up disloged so I like the Tornado brush.

I've used them for years. Many different guns from Model 12 to Kolar. Never any problem.
