Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell tells Newsmax that the Obama administration has “launched an all-out war on voter ID laws” to bolster the president’s re-election chances.

The Republican activist also asserts that voter ID laws offer a “reasonable safeguard” to protect against voter fraud and ballot-box stuffing.

Blackwell, who was secretary of state in Ohio from 1999 to 2007, also has been mayor of Cincinnati, undersecretary in the Department of Housing and Urban Development in the George H.W. Bush administration, and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission. He now is vice chairman of the Republican National Committee's Platform Committee and a senior fellow with the American Civil Rights Union (ACRU).

Of course they have! They want every illegal vote they can get, and aren't about to stand for somebody having to prove who they are! just look at all the "dead votes" he got last time. There are tons of illegals who would vote for Obama if given the chance. Holder and the rest of Obama's hinchmen plan on giving it to them!!!

I find it very strange that we (America) have gone into foreign countries to monitor their voting to assure that it is carried out in a democratic way, and dont give a sh!t about our own.

I have never chimed in on a political issue on this site before and probably never will again. But I need those of you who possess more political savvy than me to clarify something for me. In Wisconsin we are also going through turmoil about voter ID and the need or lack of need for it. I seem to recall that right after 9/11 there was a proposal put forth to implement a national ID card program. I seem to recall this was a proposal from the liberal side of politics, but cannot be sure. The thinking was this would help defend against terrorism by forcing everyone to step forward with birth certificates and such to verify their citizenship. I also seem to recall this idea was vehemently opposed by the conservative side of politics. I recall comments about not wanting the government knowing any more about its citzens than it has to and that once the government had this information it would be used agasint the citizens. Once again, I could be wrong, but this is what I recall. So, what I need is enlightenment on why the sides have now switched and the conservative side wants some sort of government-verified picture ID to vote and the liberal side says no. Why the change? It seems to me if we had imnplemented a standardized government-issued ID 10 years ago, the process would be complete by now and any bugs worked out of the system.

It is desperation on the Republican parties part. The voter ID. laws plain and simply restrict voting to the poor, elderly, and mostly Democratic voters. Typically people use their drivers license for I.D. If you do not drive, you have to get a State issued ID., before you can vote. So these people have to do more than just walk in and vote. They will have to wait in lines at the polling places to be issued a ID. if that is available, or they have to go to a State ID issuing facility first, before they can vote. The voter fraud excuss is total BS!!!! Sure there have been cases of it, on both sides, not enough to change the outcome 99.99999999999999% of the time. The Republicans know that it will have more impact by restricting the typical Demoratic AMERICANS from voting thus increasing their chances of winning.

I find it absolutely appalling that we will send our troops, that typically vote Republican, over to die to fight to eliminate a dictatorship to form a democratic voting society, and yet in this country we have Republicans trying to eliminate AMERICANS from voting, by making it more difficult, for a certain demographic of people because of their typical voting preferance. It is so blatantly obvious, on this site especially. There are comments on here that degrade, and often stress that they think certain AMERICANS should not be able to vote, because they typically vote Democratic, but yet they call themselves pround AMERICANS. Really! That is about as un-AMERICAN as you can get, period. Isn't that what we are sending our troops over to die for in Iraq?

    Flame-on people!

Sti Flyn, did you forget already about ACORN? did you ever hear a case of voter fraud perpetrated other then a democratic vote? The only party that pratices ballot stuffing is the socialist, communist, bastards that belong to this democratic party. All the poor, old black ladies who don't drive have 7 months to get off their ass, apply and get photo ID if they want to pull the lever for some communist bastard.

Show me proof, of this rampant fraud. Show me an election where there is actual proof that it would have ended differently. Your last statement proves my point. How would you feel if you have certain special limits to abide by before you could vote, that only pertain to voters of your demogaphic party? If this law is to be, then at minimum, all ID's should be required. No driver license should be valid. All people that vote should be required to obtain a voters ID card. How do you feel about that? Then you have to look at cost. Who would pay? If certain individuals could not afford to pay, then they would have to be issued these required ID's for free, as to not restrict any voting priviledges. See the problems here. What if everyone is inconvenienced to vote, how do you feel about that?

    If it's required do it

How do these poor and needy and elderly folks cash their welfare checks without an ID?

I feel quite sure that none or very few of the people you are so adamant to protect their rights don't hold jobs

    Catpower,

That is funny because we in Wisconsin had that exact thing happen in Waukesha county for our Supreme Court Justice election. Suddenly two days after the results where in they found 14000 ballats from a predominantly Republican voting district (Brookfield), after the Democratic Justice was determined the winner. The craziest part of the story is this woman (Republican)they call the county clerk has done this before. Incredibly, she still has her job. I have to wonder why, but I think I have an idea.

It is their right to vote, you want to restrict! You are restricting the right of AMERICANS to vote. Your last sentence says that. Does it matter if they have a job or not. So only the priviledged should be allowed to vote. Why is it when someone wants to restrict your rights, (Gunownership) or anything else that benifits you, you get all defensive, and say it is your rights you are messing with. If that sounds hypocritical, that is because it is.

I don't want to restrict any legal voters chance to cast one ballot

The problem comes from illegal voters and the ones that cast more than one ballot

You are assuming way too much

    Catpower,

The problem is, that is exactly who you are putting restrictions on if this ID law is required. The legal, once voting people. The reason is because of who they typically vote for.

I'm not putting restrictions on anyone, if it is a law that you need to show an ID show it or don't vote, plain simple easy

You and your administration want to stop anything from getting their vote legal or not

You have to show ID for the most basic things in life, voting is much more important than a lot of things that you have to show your ID for

Everybody that wants to vote should be required to reregister and have a photo ID, then be required to view this video to understand how important a legal election has to be. The Cantrell's in this video were democrats by the way.

It is against the Constitution to restrict voters of legal voting priviledges. That is exactly what it is doing indirectly.

Show me an election that was changed by known, and proven voter fraud? Can anyone tell me the know percentage of proven voter fraud? Voter fraud is the reasoning behind this voter repression ID. law. There is absolutely no evidence that this proven voter fraud exists to the point that the outcome of any election exist. The numbers are so minute and if it was pursued would probably be evened out by a look into the other sides fraudulent votes. To think that voter fraud exists only on the Democratic side is, ignorant!

Saying that this ID. law should be required because of supposed voter fraud is false. The only reason that this law is brought up and pressed, is to suppress voters from a certain demographic, and because the numbers of legal voters that it would affect would be enough to sway an election, period! You know it and I know it. Simple as that.

I would be all for a voter identification law that would be as restrictive to all voters. I don't have a problem with that. How would that be accomplished?

I'd like to know whats so damned hard about going to the DMV and getting an ID card. My mother didn't drive and she had a DMV ID card. It was simple to get and cost a whole $5.00...Bill

Last election day in South Carolina 953 dead people voted. Plenty of info on the internet about it, but you don't hear the media talking about it. HMB
