I feel sorry for the folks who live on or near our southern border. Your country and it's leadership has all but abandoned you. This morning the administration has announced they will cut the number of National Guard soldiers on the Mexico border by half. This due to "budgetary issues". The POTUS took an oath when he was sworn into office and he clearly hasn't lived up to that by any measure. Border security is clearly not a priority.

When will we ever get a Congress and a President with the balls to stop illegal immigration? Both parties records suck at dealing with this situation...Bill

Do you ever wonder why we protect and take care of every country in the world except OURS? We borrow money to send over seas and can't pay our own bills.
We worry about everyones borders but ours. We need to clean our toilet good just once and I hope it is in 2012.

    lets face it..

The Republicans drag butt on the border issue because they like the slave labor for businesses that cant send there jobs out of this country...

the democrats drag butt because they just like more poor potential voters to protect from the MAN snd make dependent on big government hand out programs....

so once again the working middle class is screwed......

If you live near the border, dig a huge hole, shoot every illegal in the head, dump in hole, cover with lime and repeat as needed. I dont want to hear any bullshit about they just want a better life...Work for a better life in THEIR OWN COUNTRY!!!!!!

Dont want to come to this country legally? Dont want to follow OUR laws? Then stay the hell on your side of the border. If you want to come to this country legally and obey the laws here, WELCOME TO THE USA!

Read the article, it's not unmanned. Seems like sensible idea to me.

EuroJoe is right and anybody who has ever been to the Big Bend National Park can confirm it. There are 3 places in or around the park that have been unofficial border crossings for 100 years or more with no problems. They were all shut down after 911 to the detriment of the park visitors who frequented them. There was always far too much activity in the vicinity of these crossings to interest smugglers. This is especially true given the fact that there are hundreds of miles of virtually uninhabited areas in the vicinity and you can walk across the Rio Grande anywhere. If you were a smuggler which would you use, crossings in a national park with lots of park rangers and border patrol around or the boonies?

Closing those unofficial crossings has had a detrimental effect upon park tourism along with tourism in the Lajitas area just outside of the park.

One way to discourage border crossings on the southern border is to cut off all financial aid to non-citizens and remove the incentive once they arrive here. No drivers license, no social security, no food stamps, no rent subsidy, no jobs, no unemployment and no exceptions.
