Either powder can be used for 1300 fps 1 1/8 oz. loads. That said, I prefer Unique for 1 1/8 oz. and Herco for 1 1/4 oz. and stay around 1220 - 1250 fps. For a fast load in terms of time from muzzle to target, I prefer to use size 5 or 6 shot (games) instead of more velocity.

Unique for both loads, it pushes not punches like Herco.

Thanks for the good opinions. I am shooting Herco now for 1 1/4 oz. and a little 1 1/8 oz. but was looking for something better for 1 1/8 oz. and I thought maybe Unique. The responses seems to think the same - Unique. I am thinking Unique 1 1/8 oz. @ 1300fps. and 7 1/2's will pack a punch.

Shot doves yesterday with the base load being factory Fed. Field & Range, 1 1/8 oz. 7 1/2's @ 1200fps. and also tried some Remington Pheasant Loads @ 1 1/4 oz. @ 1330fps. 7 1/2's - wow, not even a fair comparison on high flying pass shooting doves around 50 yd. avg. Had several keep flying leaving a lot of feathers in the air but when I put the Remingtons in, that ended that.

4th down, nothing makes up for a mis-lead on doves and de-feathering, Unique for a quick load is my choice too.

4thdown, an excellent high flyer load uses unique as well. Find appropriate 1.25 load at 1220 fps for your hull preference.

Unique for 1-1/8 loads, plus you can use it for 16, 20, 28 gauge loads, and most pistol cartridges.

I have used Unique a long time for Caps loads. Soft shooting, devastating on targets.
