I want to make a 7/8 oz #8.5 load for singles. Here is what I have:

    CB4100 (WJ 7/8 - 1oz clones) wads

    Fio Primers

    Clay Dot Powder

    AA Hull

I want a load that is approx 1200 fps.

    How much powder????

    Thanks,
    Forrest

    Forrest.

I load 18.3 Clay Dot in a Gun Club hulls using Downrange 7/8 wads,Rio primers & 7/8 oz of 8 1/2 shot. I use this for all of my 16 yd practice.

Same components except I use the Grey CB 0178-12 which is the 7/8oz clone and 17.2 of ClayDot. This measures ~1190 from my 30" K-80 with .740 bore. Great load and it will cycle an 1100 or 391 to boot.

I don't use your components but here's another: STS hull, Win. or Cheddite primer, 17 gr. Clays, 7/8 oz (honest) of 9s, and the AA gray wad or the claybuster clone. Good for skeet, 16 yards, 1st shot of doubles, and many sporting presentations. I have a nabor I introduced to them and he loads them with 8s and 18 gr. of Clays for almost all sporting presentations; his "magic" bullets....breakemall....Bob Dodd

I think I will load a couple boxes tonight with 17 grains of Clays and see how they work. There is no published data for this load but I seriously doubt that it could hurt anything.

CB4100 Wad, 17 gr Clays, AA hull, Fio Primer, Hopefully around 1200-1225fps.

    Thanks,
    Forrest

My apologies, I did some transposing and goofed it well.

With the AA 12L (gray) wad or the CB clone; AA hull, 7/8 oz shot, Win. primer, 18.3 gr. Clays for 1250fps and 8,300 PSI or up to 20.5 gr. of Clays for 1300fps and 10,000 PSI

With the AA 12SL (1 oz pink) or CB clone; AA hull, 7/8 oz shot, Win. primer, 16.9 gr. of Clays for 1200fps and 7100 LUP or up to 19.7 gr. of Clays for 1300 fps and 8,400 LUP

There should be plenty of room for your different wad and primer to stay within safe pressure at the load you are suggesting.....Bob Dodd

I load the exact same components as you. Using either Clays or Clay Dot, I use 17 grains. I also use Remington hulls with this load as well. Regardless of the hull, these loads chrono for me (aprox 3,000 ft elevation) at 1190 fps to 1205 fps. I checked with Alliant to make sure this would be a "safe" load for pressure. They said it would be fine, pressures around 7200 psi. Bobk

    Hey Forrest,

I started at about 17.4 - 17.5 grains with the same components (MEC #32 bushing). If my memory serves me, I got a bit over 1200 fps in the colder weather.
