HELP!!! Savage model 30 shotgun===============

    We have a older Savage model 30 - 20 gauge pump shotgun...It does not even have a serial # on it.....Problem is when you load it you cannot extract the live round from the chamber, you must fire it....Yes you read that right, you must fire the live round then you can open the action.....There is no lever, or any other attachment to open the action.....I tried everything.....Now I know there has to be a way to open the action with a live round in the chamber, this 73 year old dummy just cannot figure it out.....Anyone help, please!!!     They list the Savage 30 by model type (A, B, C, D, etc.). They also sell the schematic for $1.50 as a PDF.

    Looks like part number 42 in these diagrams - Slide Lock Assembly.

    Should be located to the left of the trigger when holding the gun. Might have a bad spring (part 41) for it that keeps it tucked up inside the frame??
