The 8Ga Industrials I've seen have a stepped brass base. (two different diameters above the rim) They were used to break up the lime balls in a lime kiln in the paper industry. If I remember right, they were 2 1/2 oz slugs fired thru a single shot Martini type falling block action about 24" barrel that was bolted to the floor and fired with a pull cord. Sometimes took five hundred or more slugs to break up the lime build up in front of the burners.
Was a great job back then. Sitting on a stool, load, & fire, load, & fire by the hour.
