    Hello:
A few days ago I got hit with a terrible computer virus, called 2012. It disabled all my computer programs, worse virus my computer ever had. I paid $300.00 to have a computer man come out and fix it. He thought he fixed the problem, but every time I turn the computer on, it takes a long time to start up, than freezes up, and times out.

I am real close to tossing this computer out, but than I would not be able to use this site. Anyone have any ideas on a program I can run. He installed super anti spy, and C cleaner. They help at first, but than the same old s---!

I used this several weeks back to remove a virus from a neighbors computer. They had used the Geek squad previously but were a little shy of spending that amount of money once again. They run Nortons but it did not catch it.

The virus removed had a number of names, the one I removed had 2012 in its name.

If you decide to check it out, decline the offer to purchase, the free version is all you need.

The scan took about 20 minutes. A reboot and the all was well.

If his hard drive was fried he wouldn't be able to get online ( I have fried 3 of them ) and nothing I did would get me online until they were replaced ... I keep an External Hard Drive up dated just in case it happens again, I will still have my files ... Try running the SuperAntiSpyware daily and see if that helps ... If all else fails he can back up your files with a lap top and put a new Hard Drive in it and reload what you have on it with a few exceptions ... You will have to contact your ISP and they will help you set up the new Hard Drive or the people who made your computer if its under warrantee ... If its a Dell they sell a software warrantee that goes beyone the one when it was a new computer ... Their number is 1(888) 257-6372 Dell solution station ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

There is a better solution.... Dump the junk and buy a Mac. Only problem I have ever had was when I had to run Windows to update my ESCORT radar detector. Between Their crap software and the win rap it crashed my computer.

    Buy Macintosh

By all means, buy a MAC if you like spending twice as much for a computer as it should cost. MACnuts really irritate me.

Two MACs!- then you paid 4 times more than you should have- LOL. Why is it that every time somebody has a computer problem the MACnuts come out of the woodwork to brag about how smart they are to have bought an overpriced Apple product? It wouldn't be so bad if somebody was asking for computer purchase advice, but when somebody has a problem they don't want to hear babble from arrogant MAC owners. P.S. Who the hell cares about stock prices unless one is considering a stock purchase.

Bulge was the first response to my thread. Presently, I am running avast to see if it will clean it up. If not, I will go down the list. Thanks for all your help.
I will let you know if any of this works, if not, I am finished with computers. WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE WHO DO THESE VIRUS BE ARRESTED?

Steve--The people that make the computer virus' can and are arrested when they are caught. It is very hard to pinpoint where they originate. The same technology they use to make these virus' also works in their favor to hide them. With some prevention and a little basic computer lessons on what sites and emails that you do not want to open will prevent you from getting them. These things spread like real life human virus'. You have to be careful with what emails you open and sites you go to just like in real life you watch what women you sleep with.

I will say if your still able to chat with us on this thread its not as bad as you think.

I just finished running Avast. Seems to run better so far. It found 2 threats.

Thank you for that info about the 2012 virus. I plan to show my computer man that information if my computer is not fixed.

    Steve,

If you don't already have it, download the latest edition of Firefox,

    it should Version 5.0.

I've been running it for 7 + years now and no virus's on any of my

PC's. Great browser and hard for a virus to penetrate.

$300 to fix is crazy. Format the harddrive and start over. You may not remove it otherwise.

Theses guys will not be arrested, they could be in China.
