Brian Williams on NBC News tonight actually aired a positive story about kids shooting shotguns.
A place called CampCompass was featured on their "making a difference" segment. It showed kids shooting sporting clays and fishing. Apparently this "academy" takes inner city kids in Pennsylvania and shows them the great outdoors. They fish, hunt and do clay shooting as part of their curriculum.

Sounds like a good program and it is amazing that NBC News actually covered it as a positive story.

If it is tax payer money I would rather it be spent this way, than how it is being thrown away these days. Jerry in MI.

From what I can tell the program was started by a junior high school teacher named Annono (sp). He wanted to expose kids to the traditions of camping, fishing, hunting and the shooting sports. They learn about the outdoors and learn some real life skills. The kids learn about themselves, leadership, responsibility etc. The organization is a 501c3 non profit. It looks like they get their funding from contributions. They do some fund raising events and people can sponsor a camper. It does not look like any kind of government program. He has written a book and the proceeds are going to help fund the program.

Maybe someone from Allentown or nearby knows more about the program and can comment with some personal knowledge.

Here's a link. Ted Nugent does the same thing, but more one on one.

This is an admirable pursuit, and my hat's off to anyone helping the youth of our country retain their heritage.

Here's the web site for Annoni's camp.

It looks like it is a local version of national movement.

    Nice work.
