head diameter

    When resizing the the base of the shotshell what is the recomended diameter to size too? Is the head suppose to be slightly tapered also??

    Measure the chamber of the gun you are going to use and resize .005 smaller. HMB

    The standard chamber dim. is .8118" with an included taper of .005" per inch, for the length of the chamber. Per the above suggestion, chambers are all over the map, most are a little oversize. Most factory shells will be around .803" some will be as big as .807, it is not really very critical and the suggestion of .005 under the chamber is a good one. Don't worry about the taper, re: the shell head. JH

    According to MEC, the minimum head size is .804" and the max is .806". They also recommend not to resize too much smaller than the minimum chamber size for the guns you would shoot them in. .805"/.806" is a good target to start with and if your chambers aren't too small, a few thousandths larger will do. If you have a small chamber, you may need to reduce the size a little more.
