I am looking to go hare hunting in Maine...never tried it before. I have a 12 g with 2&3/4 chambers and a 410 with 2.5 chambers. Interested in shot size for the 12; I have heard everything from 4s to 8s. I hand load the 410 so is there a recommendation for a load that will take a hare? Thanks RICH

I use 5's for cottontails and even though hares are larger and fur thicker, I would still think them to be sufficient.

5s are the ticket. Enough mass to punch through and kill cleanly and not so much that they tear the hare to pieces.

I just use my regular trap loads on rabbits.

Thanks for all the good info. Think I will invest in a box or 2 of plated 5's. Regards all, RICH
