Hardness of lead ??

    is there a way to test for the hardness of lead that has been cast in ingots such as a pressure test or a scratch test-want to cast some 12ga. sabots- thanks, dennis

    There are 2 lead hardness testers that I know of, Saeco, and LBT. You want to make the sabots from pure lead which is 5 Brinell, and the fingernail scratch test is some what inaccurate as 12 Brinell lead can be fingernail scratched. If you decide to buy a hardness tester go with the LBT because it will check a ingot and is direct reading where as the Saeco is only made for checking bullets and the reading you get from it has to be cross referenced.

    or you can ask the person your buying the lead from what the brinel hardness is.
