I'm looking for a high quality hard leather gun case. Not the floppy kind - the kind that's essentially a wooden box with a leather exterior and a wool fabric interior with partitions. The case needs to be able to accept a Kolar unsingle barrel, a double barrel, a stock and a forearm.

The problem is that my unsingle barrel is about 35 inches long, and none of the usual suspects (Jeff's Outfitters, Orvis, Connecticut Firearms, etc.) sell a hard leather case that's long enough. The Americase that the gun came in is giving me a hernia. Pelican cases are almost as heavy and very ugly (Sorry, Pelican).

Any ideas (other than taking up weight lifting)?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Murray has only soft cases, and those are too short.

If money is not an object, contact Huey. They will build whatever you want to your exact specs. Finest leather hardcase made and its made in the USA.

    Try Jeff at http://www.jeffsoutfitters.com/

His cases are excellent and inexpensive (I have 5 or 6). He has a trap case that holds a 34"+ barrel.

    Wolfman -

As my original post noted, Jeff's was one of the first places I tried. He said he doesn't have anything long enough.

Ted, for a while, at least, John Boyd (Quality Arms, Houston) was importing Spanish Oak/Leather cases, including, IIRC, a couple in the 48-52" length.

I would not think ordering custom partitions in a 'stock' long case would be overly burdensome.

You might also check Hardy, in the UK. I have no idea who their US distributor is. Once-upon-a-time, I had a Hardy case that was a good fit for a 14bore flintock gun with 36" barrels.

Have you considered having a good Leg o'Mutton case made? GOOD, like Robert Cochrane's ( http://www.robertcochrane.com/ )

I just saw Fei hand-made oak/leather Guncases. Does anybody know of them?

Hitapair is right. Huey will make you anything you need. They are great cases but not cheap. They are in Kansas. Just west of Kansas City. I have two of them and they are really nice.

Ted, make sure you get a weight estimate first. I have been looking for a hard case like you suggest for a long time. I don't care about the leather, but I want something closer to the weight of my clam shell Perazzi case. Everything I've seen with a wooden frame weighs as much as my Colorado case (like Americase).
