What is the purpose of a thread such as this? It simply serves to give fodder to the people who would brand the majority of the people on this board as racist simpletons.

I see no value in this. Perhaps a discussion of how good a General Lee was would be better than denegrating MLK?

    Thoughts?

mtneer88, you are the one bringing up MLK, not the rest of us. Are you making this a racist thing? Mike.

    88,

I'm not speaking for Bulge, but my guess is that he thinks your premise is packed all the way to the gills with Bull$hit. But I could be wrong.

When we pass a national holiday for man whose records are sealed I will call BS. Long after we are gone it will be known he was a communist and womanizer.

Hey, that part about sealed records sounds just like Obama doesn't it?

cbxchris, are you saying that the records for MLK are sealed also? I was not aware of that. I thought he made a lot of progress for black people while doing it in a peaceful way. Mike.

The FBI records are sealed until 2027.......in hopes all that voted for that BS will be out of office or dead.

Now why would you have to seal records for 50 years when making a national holiday for someone? I am not that stupid.

Good points mtneer88. Jackson was a fruitcake. Lee lost.

Both fought to preserve slavery. When they were done Atlanta, Vicksburg, Petersburg, the Shenandoah Valley, and Richmond were ash heaps. 75% of the capital of the South was gone, and they were left an economic wreck for a hundred years.

Slavery was a contributing factor but the South fought to preserve their freedoms. Mike.

The South seceded over slavery. What rights had Lincoln threatened when they seceded.

Barker - Make a time line? What had Lincoln done, or threatened to do, before the southern states seceded?

Lee started out as a great General during the Mexican war. However, his ego (much like other great Generals) caused him to lose Gettysburg in not listening to his commanding Generals, namely Longstreet, thus Lee lost the war at Gettysburg. He tried to blame it on Jeb Stuarts failure to show up on the Confedertes flank (he was getting his butt beaten by George A. Custer's Michigan Calvary at Hanover) but that excuse didn't hold well. Lee tried to resign but Jefferson Davis refused the resignation. Of course the Federals had their failures too. Not a lot known about Jackson except that he was a religious zealot, loved battle and was not afraid to die.
