gun wood question

    I am not a wood expert that is why i am asking you guys. All the gun wood i see is walnut, I am getting ready to cut down a very big cherry tree. Is this wood to hard for gun stocks, or can you use it. Thanks for the help from larry.

    everything about cherry is quite similar to walnut so it will make a solid utility gunstock. But, cherry has zero character - no grain - no beauty. Looks good as furniture but not what many people expect in a gunstock.

    check for figure in the crotch where a branch comes off the main trunk.
