Gun storage - best method

    I use the exact same method as you, but also store the firearms in individual gun socks to prevent corrosion. Never an oil issue.

    A lot depends on if the gun is finished where wood was removed for stock inletting. I have a safe and a cabinet, the safe won't take them barrel down.

    My Dad always put them in the cabinet with the barrel down. There were some oil streaks in the wood on the older ones. Oil on the outsde will react to gravity also, no matter how thin.

    1100's are finished all over, no problem there.

    My old Le Fever SxS has to go barrel down to save the wood.

    So it depends on the gun.
